I need help and get find it

How do I set the default screen so I’m not bombarded with suggestions or recently added?
My movies are stored in genre folders. How do display those genres with the artwork I created for each in a grid? I can display the folders, but only in a list with small generic icons. At the very least I’d like to edit the generated genre list and display using that.
How do I get rid of the “Popular Tracks” section under the Artist? It just wastes space.
How do I edit movies when the cover art or other details are wrong?

You can configure what hubs of which libraries will be displayed on the home page. Though you cannot configure Plex to go straight to a specific library (unless you’re willing to tinker with the URLs).

As for editing an item… you can edit the genres associated to an item by editing the Genre tags in the Tags tab; same for posters etc.

If a movie’s gotten completely wrong metadata (and posters) you might want to fix that match instead (via the context menu of that particular item : > Fix Match).

Plex currently does not offer dedicated category views (e.g. grouping movies by genre etc.). Instead you can filter movies by various parameters (e.g. genres) – you should find the related controls in the header section of each app (when in library view)… in addition to the filtering you can also define how that library is displayed (e.g. by movies or folders, tv-shows, seasons, episodes - artists, albums, tracks…) as well as specify how the library should be sorted.

Re/ “get rid of popular tracks”
You can disable each library from collecting the information about popular tracks.
From the context menu of the library: > Manage Library > Edit...Advanced > Popular Tracks
The same goes for other data like concert information etc.

You’re starting well past where I am. I don;t even know where the Settings are. The layout is not remotely user friendly.

Settings → the crossed wrench/screwdriver icon in the top-right corner of the web app.

I got that, but I don’t see the paths either you or the Plex instructions show.

When I click on the Home icon I don;t want to see all the Plex BS, I want to see my libraries

You can disable all the online media sources in the settings
Settings > [Account Name] > Online Media Sources

e.g. by setting Podcasts to Disabled.

If you don’t want to see them in your main navigation but keep them around to check them out in the future you can also “unpin” them. This way they’ll only show up if you click the More button in the main navigation.

  • hover over the online media source in question
  • click ... > Unpin

That was helpful. Thanks.
I disabled the recommendations but under the music artist I still see the Popular Tracks when all I want are the albums.

You might need to refresh the metadata for that library for that change to take effect.

  • hover over the library in question
  • click ... > Manage Library > Refresh All Metadata

I did that but Popular Tracks still appears. I honestly don;t know why every streaming media company thinks they have to recommend stuff, especially when we own it.

Oops! It looks like it disappeared after opening a few Artists. Thanks.

They do it because they make money from it. Companies, like Plex, don’t really care about users they only care about how they can exploit the user for cash.

For the longest time Plex made a good and fairly easy to use piece of software but when the real money started rolling in they lost site of the users and now the only time Plex notices users is when, at the end of the day, they wash their feet and clean the users out from between their toes.

Pretty much. Any idea how to show a grid of my Genres and select one to list the movies within that genre? I don’t like having to use a menu to display a single genre.
Or at least edit the genres

see above:

Genre grid

Plex doesn’t have that…
Workarounds are:

  • Use the filter

  • Create your own smart collections for your genres or genre combinations

    1. from the filter dropdown… scroll to the end of the list and select Advanced Filter
    2. select what genres to be included in your view (could be a single genre or maybe Action + Adventure + Action/Adventure)
    3. click Save As and select `Smart Collection (“smart” collections and playlists will automatically update if you add new media meeting the selected criteria)

Editing the Genres

  1. Open the Edit dialog
    • from library view: hover over a movie poster and click the pencil icon
    • from the movie’s details page: click the pencil button
  2. Go to the Tags tab
  3. Add/delete/change the assigned genres – manually changing a field will also “lock” it so it won’t be overwritten if you refresh the metadata

Thank you very much.
