I need to move Plex Media Server software from one drive to another

Server Version#:1.41.4.9463-630c9f557
Player Version#: web 4.143.0 under chrome
I need to move my main plex software from one drive to another for space reasons. Not the database under /user/appdata/local/plex media server, not the plex media that’s all stored on Synology NAS drives. Server is running on AsusTek threadripper running win10 at present. I’m afraid if i delete it and reinstall from scratch i will lose my database and all the meta data. I have many manual updates in it and don’t feel like redoing it.

Are you sure you want to go after ~100 MB of executables and program files? If you need that to free up disk space, your setup seems to have a more severe issue.

It’s not recommended to move the executables to a different drive than C:.
You could move the server data directory… that should give you back GBs of disc space on the system drive.

Well when I built this machine 5 years ago I didn’t plan ahead as far as I should have. I should have gone with raid 0 on first two nvme 1T drives but I was impatient and didn’t. Now i’m clearing off the 2nd 1t drive so I can get a techie i know to clone primary c and convert to raid zero on boot. I had my server running on win 7 until forced to move it 2021 to win 10 machine. As it turns out i was able to clone the software which is only 245meg or so to hard spinning disk that will outlast the NVME. After I ran regedit to update the path to the new drive it seems to working fine but more testing to perform before i claim victory. However I did find the write up on moving the database from the user/appdata/……/server directory which that guy is 8 gig. now that is a whole lot more space.

I did notice one other item the path for the plex updater service is still pointing at the old F not C drive. Instead of the new H drive.

If you search in google for “how to change plex service.exe path”. You can find the detailed directions on using regedit to update the service path. I won’t repeat them here for fear of finger checks but it can be done.
