So a few weeks back I noted that programs on Windows (e.g. OneDrive) and on my Nvidia Shield (e.g. Plex) no longer detect changes to the folder structures on my WDMYCloud. Surfing the Plex forums, I came to know of inotify and possibly a limitation to the number of folders that it can monitor and pass on to a other devices.
In response I moved most of my music to the Shield directly to try and limit the number of folders on the NAS to no effect. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.
I saw the below Linux tip on increasing the folder count being monitored. Anyone know how to tailor for WDMyCloud. Have actually reached out to WDMyCloud support and forums with no luck.
Those guides usually refer to local media. IIRC automatic updates aren’t working with remote or network storage (or at best with some limitations). Setting the inotify threshold on the WD MyCloud will impact notifications within the NAS… not to the OS running your Shield or Windows servers.
IIRC they don’t monitor folder changes on a network share. Seems to be a limitation of the underlying system and how it integrates into the file system (which it apparently cannot do for NFS or SMB).
I don’t use windows but instead am on linux. I have multiple MyCloud devices (EX2 & EX4) and have setup my shares to use NFS Access with a linux system running plex. However, from time to time I have needed to connect windows systems to my environment without any problems.
Is this what you have done ? So NFS share from your MyCloud NAS to your windows system ? If so what syntax have you used to mount the NFS on windows as I’d like to review it.
I doubt it would be a mounting problem for Windows, as these used to work previously. For Plex in Windows for libraries I actually do not mount drives but just specify network path directly in folder space.
