I want to take a video streaming from my Plex server HDD or a playlist of videos running from my Plex server HDD and stop that stream on a periodic basis and run an advertisement from a different file on the Plex server hdd.
Is there an easy way to do this? Do you have an add-on developer you could suggest to build this?
What we do now is take our main video stream, split it into 10 minute video files, add them to the playlist with the advertising file in between each video segment file. This is a lot of work.
The reason is I play clinical information videos in my medical clinic waiting room, and I want to be able to inject ads about the services we provide while patients wait to be seen.
When I saw the first post about this I thought that there was no way that what was wanted could conform to Plex’s TOS. The explanation provided is something I had not thought of in that it does not use Plex directly for monetary gain and does not involve remote access with people paying for access.
With that explanation I now think the use pattern is in a grey area and Plex needs to be asked directly about fair use.
Personally I think it is still over the line but I cannot be sure so you are correct that Plex needs to respond directly and quite rapidly to the original question but not so much the how as to if it is within the allowed usage.
Apologies, I mis-typed. This is not a commercial application, it is at home in my “clinic” - that is what we call my bar and man-cave in the basement. My “patients” are the cute girls that come hang out with me and my non-commercial pals.
I want to play movies for my friends, and want to inject other short clips into the stream similar to ads in a TV show.
