I experience problems during playback through a chromecast of some DVR recorded files.
Where a file has the problem, most of it plays fine, but there a segments where the following occurs:
- most of the picture is squashed into the top half of the screen
- the last few lines are stretched across the bottom half of the screen, shifted diagonally
- in the latest chromecast client, the thumbnail also reappears in the bottom half of the screen
- both audio and video play in short (half - one second) bursts
Other clients, e.g the web client or on an android phone can play the files without the problems.
The segments where this happens are repeatable - exactly the same every time. This suggests it is a problem related to the content of the video or audio stream, rather than lack of bandwidth or CPU resource for the transcoder.
In addition I have tried both wireless and ethernet to the chromecast, and the transcoder is mostly consuming less than 2% of a CPU during playback, including during the sections where the problem occurs.
The files are recorded from UK HD channels - one example is 1080p/H264/Bit rate 3282 kbps
My limited reading of the log files suggests that the files are transcoded because of the audio codec - AAC_LATM.
Any help would be appreciated.
