# Internet required for Android TV?

My internet is currently out due to a bad storm and I am unable to access Plex via my shield. Server is hosted locally on a different device and is up & running, accessible from other local devices (Plex Windows tested.)
Is internet really required for Plex access on Android TV??
I have 192.168.1.0/24 (LAN) and 192.168.90.0/24 (IoT VLAN) configured in AllowedNetworks on my server.

Don’t think so.. I am fully logged in to Plex, it loads my homepage on the Shield - just tells me “You don’t have internet” right on the main screen of the Plex app.

You can give this a shot. It says you need to have a connection to make it work, but I think some people have had luck without it as long as you can still access the server controls.

I already have the allowed networks configuration set and it is working for other devices on my LAN.

Maybe try force stopping the Shield app and restarting it, or completely rebooting your Shield. Beyond that I’m not much help. I’m probably not much help to begin with 🤣

I have used Plex for a loooooong time and have Allowed Networks configured for exactly this type of reason.
The Shield is a relatively new client for me, about a year old or so. I don’t have this issue with Plex Windows, which is also on the 192.168.1.0/24 network.
I also did not have this issue with my Roku device in the past.

Must be some setting on the shield forcing a check on line. Would you by any chance have auto login enabled?

Okay, I’ve that off. Worth a try?
Last time I’d an internet outage (admittedly it was a while ago) plex on my shield app worked fine with the same settings you have.
Think I’ve also allow insecure connections set to perferred but as its working on your roku its likely you have that already.
I’ll try an simulate a internet outage later and see if it works.

Yeah, that’s worth a shot. When the power comes back on, I’ll flip that off too (I’ll probably still be without internet when the power comes back on lol.)
EDIT: Power and internet are back. While internet was on, I connected and everything worked perfectly. I disabled auto-login and simulated an Internet outage. Plex client works fine - force killed the app, still worked fine. With auto-login disabled, I was met with the login page where I entered my pin, etc. No issues there.
Enabled auto-login, Plex client continues to work perfectly fine… Rebooted shield, force-killed the app, everything. No issues.
So, not sure… Unable to reproduce now that power and internet are back.
