I think this works: In Settings -> Network, uncheck “Disable weak TLS encryption.” Also, Secure Connections may need to be either preferred or disabled instead of required.
Disable IPv6 support as well.
On the TV app, you may have to logout / login again if you get that far (I gave my Samsung F7100 to a family member awhile back. I don’t remember exactly how the login process works with the app).
Also try turning off the TV and removing the power for 10 - 15 seconds. On some TVs turning the TV off really just puts it to sleep. Removing the power, like a restart or shutdown on a PC, makes sure the app is really stopped.
thanks … .worked after adding the server manually by inputting the IP address.
The problem I am having now is that once I put the ip address it works fine, but when I exit the app and login again, the server become unavailable and I need to input the ip address again. Any ideas of what might be the problem?
What version of Plex Media Server are you running?
You need to be at 1.19.2.2711 or later. See thread below for details.
I’m not sure what else to check. Maybe others can assist.
As mentioned in the thread, the Plex client for your TV is 3rd party and no longer supported. It will eventually irreparably break. Might be time to consider using a Roku/FireStick 4K/etc. The client will be much faster and more responsive as it has a current CPU. Also, you’ll pick up new features such as Skip Intro for TV shows. HEVC video will also direct play. 4K HDR compatible Rokus & FireSticks run about $50 USD. Amazon frequently puts their FireSticks on sale for $10-$15 USD off list. Not sure how often Rokus go on sale, but they do sell refurbished version on Amazon for a discount.
thanks … on the TV i am running 2.012 (provided by Orca)
do you think a chromecast will do the job? the 1080p versions are cheap and i prefer an android os?
I’ve no experience with Chromecast.
My main Plex client is an Nvidia Shield (2015 Pro). It’s the bomb. Plays everything I throw at it. It feeds my home theater system (Denon receiver, LG OLED TV). I consider it pricey and overkill for a backup TV, but if you don’t mind the price you’ll really like it. You’ll want the Pro model, not the basic “tube” version. The forum is full of posts with trouble with the Plex app on the Tube. It is getting better, but still some kinks.
Look at the Amazon FireTV 4K stick. I have one. It has no problem playing 4K HDR video, so it should play any 1080p video. It is integrated into Amazon’s ecosystem, which is nice if you’re a Prime member. Prime Video is part of the home screen, not a separate app like Plex, Netflix, etc.
You get the Amazon Store, not Google Play. Not a problem for the major apps such as Plex, Streaming TV apps, etc. Do not get an earlier version of the FireStick. They always had nagging issues (I had several).
I would avoid the MiBox and similar devices. I’ve no hand-on with any of them, but there always seems to be a lot of forum posts about trouble with them.
If you do go away from Android, Roku & AppleTV 4K get good reports. Never used a Roku, but a lot of fans on the forum. A family member has an AppleTV and streams from my Plex server. It works quite well. It definitely has the Apple look & feel. Once you’re in the Plex app it is very similar to the other Plex apps.
