My workplace, where I used plex most often (for music and audiobooks), has started arbitrarily blocking all .tv domains and will not unblock plex.tv. is there any way I can get around this and still access my server? My only option right now is to burn through my mobile data, which is burdensome.
VPN.
But if they’re blocking .TV then they are likely blocking known VPN IPs too.
maybe you could directly access the public ip of your plex server, maybe use ddns to make it easier?
not sure why everybody is making this more difficult than it has to be.
forward the port on your router at home and then just use your public IP
example: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:32400
Sadly, VPNs are blocked and direct connect was still blocked. I guess no dice.
Easier way.
If you have a router that supports a Dynamic DNS service it can be done very easily.
I have a netgear night hawk which does support DynDns and NoIP.
So go purchase a domain name from Noip.com (cheap annual cost).
Set up the Dynamic DNS stuff in your router.
Be sure to properly port forward PMS in your router (Plenty of doc around to tell you how to do that). Note: You could also port forward RDP or FTP as well to allow some trick things to happen.
Once completed you can access your PMS like so.

Remember NOT to get a .tv domain name… LOL!
You still need to authenticate against your server, which momentarily uses the plex.tv site. Once you have authenticated via Google, FB, or regular email, you’re deposited back at your server.
Without violating company policy, you’re pretty much stuck.
If you’re daring, you could always host your own proxy site, and browse to your plex server that way. Don’t try this if you think you’ll get your hands slapped or fired.
That is NOT correct.
You can log directly on to you server.
You just will not get PlexPass features I believe…
Oh and BTW you really think I posted this method as a theory???
It’s exactly how I am configured and it works just fine…
LOL
But of course he still might have to deal with his employer…
Log out of your server. Log back in, directly to your server, not via Plex.tv. I guarantee you will bounce off of Plex.tv.
Go ahead and do it, I’ll wait…
LOL
Too funny…
You are right!!!
Wonder when THAT changed those !!!
THAT needs to be fixed!!!
