Is there any way to point Plex to a folder of m3u playlists and have it import and update Plex with them?

Hi helpful Plexperts!

I manage my large music collection mediculously with MediaMonkey and have it export my playlists to the PC where the media and Plex is hosted. Is there any way to get Plex to see the folder with the m3u playlists (or I can use another format) and import the playlists into Plex so I can play from that? I regularly update them (most are smart playlists that update based on last played, etc) so Plex also needs to be scanning them regularly for updated versions of the playlists in that folder.

Is there any way to do this in Plex? I can do it in Emby but I prefer to use Plex.

Thanks

Plex unfortunately cannot import playlists.

If you do all your playback within Plex, you can create those smart playlists within Plex.

I don’t play all from Plex, I play from a number of places which all scrobble to Last.fm. I then use an application to pull the plays from Last.fm into MediaMonkey, which updates the playlists.

Is this something that’s likely to be added? It seems strange that it can’t!

With the feature request being 8 years old, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Thanks Beckfield, sounds like Plex is no good for music for me then. Shame as otherwise it’s good for music and works with Sonos but I hate hearing the same songs repeating too often which I find with static playlists (the same reason I don’t use Spotify so much, even with large playlists it seems to keep repeating the same tracks instead of less played).

I’ll have to keep searching for the best flexible option for me…

Use xTeVe for m3u compatibility but I don’t think it’s practical for what you’re trying to do.

I use Plex+iTunes to import playlists.
