Hello,

So let me just outline what has been going on, Frozen (the Disney film) was not being recognised correctly on my Plex, so I renamed it in line with the recommended naming scheme:

I then chose “Scan Library Files” on the movies library, then this:

The same thing is happening with Hercules so I was wondering, is there something going on with the metadata for Disney movies?

Thanks

The real fix is to follow the Media Preparation Guides:

[https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows)

Movies without (YEAR) are simply non-compliant and if you don’t follow the TV Show Guidelines you’re in for a world of hurt.

Just renaming a files/folders that’s already been scanned into Plex won’t fix any problems. You need to either Plex Dance the file (see my sig), unmatch/rematch, fix incorrect match, or match manually.

In the interest of time and full disclosure…:

The [Plex Dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/the-plex-dance/197064)®:

1. remove show(s)/movie(s) from library
2. update library
3. empty trash
4. clean bundles
[https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions) \<— update library, empty trash, clean bundles
5. bring names and structures into compliance, check to be sure, fiddle with changes, fix stuff, etc
6. replace corrected item(s) into library
7. update library

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.

The [Plex Dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/the-plex-dance/197064)® is something you’ll need to do often so committing those steps to memory will be a good thing.

Only if you don’t name your files correctly to begin with.

^^ a practice 99.99874592% of users frequenting this forum are currently employing. The (some) thousands of users with compliant file names and structures aren’t posting (frequently) because their stuff is working as expected.

We even have a mini-GIF-Movie as proof above. I usually ask for log files, but in this case a Motion Picture was provided.

I still think Plex should ‘Suggest’ in more forceful terms that a reading of the ‘Media Preparation’ section of the documentation will improve the Plex experience greatly, but I type fast and have those areas bookmarked as well as the [Plex Dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/the-plex-dance/197064) Steps and by the time those are needed the user is generally more open to ‘Suggestions’.

TL;DR - Yea, we know.

I did Hercules and Frozen back to back. Both got wrong metadata. Researched and found this forum. Thanks for the tip about adding the year.

Why do you perform the “Plex Dance” All I did was right click, unmatch, rename file, and scan library. Took about 30 secs. Since I didn’t do the plex dance… what expected errors will I see?

You need to dance only if renaming won’t solve a wrong match.
