For future proofing, it would be great if Plex added general support for JPEG XL (.jxl). It could be used for multiple things, like:

- Storing and viewing photos
- Media metadata (album art)
  - Recompress existing JPEG and PNG losslessly to shave down the metadata database.

More info on the format:

Decode support is probably dependent on support in browsers and OS-es?

But a lot of big players are already on board:

JPEG XL support is widely spreading to more and more places. See: [JPEG XL - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_XL#Official_software_support)

Of note: It is supported across the Apple ecosystem – including iOS v17+ and Safari 17+ – Gnome, Firefox (in prerelease), and ImageMagick has support for it (I’m surprised Plex isn’t using ImageMagick for all it’s image-handling… what is it using instead?)

Bumping this, rather than creating a new request.

Converting a bunch of massive PNG files, and was hoping to migrate to JPEG XL (.jxl). Surprised and disappointed that the format isn’t yet supported at Plex. Please get on board!
