Latest App Update - Relay no longer working in Android App, works fine in Browser

cross-post with server-windows thread

Server Version#: 1.41.5.9522 (Plex Pass)
Player Version#: 10.26.0.2578 (Paid)

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
Android OS: v14 - One UI 6.1
ISP - T-Mobile Home Internet (CGNAT)
Relay - enabled

As the title says. When I was running the previous version of the Media Server and Android app, the Relay connection worked fine from my Android app while on 5G (non-Wifi). After the most recent update to the Android App and Media Server (Windows), this same remote access via Relay no longer works via the App. I am able to browse my libraries and tap on ‘Play’, but then it throws the error message “Source Error”, with the choice to either ‘Retry’ or ‘Close’ (Retry doesn’t help). However, if I open an Browser session on my Android Device while on 5G, I can login to my Plex account and stream content from my server without issue.

While on Wifi on the same network, the App will stream content from my Plex server without issue.

Has anyone encountered this problem with the latest App version on Android? I would appreciate any insights as to how to troubleshoot. I am not concerned/interested in setting up a VPN/VPS at this point in time, I just want to get the Relay working via the App.

Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same issue and the exact same need. Relay via cellular was working fine on the old app. Not working at all on the new app. Please please fix!

Same issue here. Latest update completely ruined it for watching my library away from home. Have ATT as internet provider.

Gentle nudge. Plex devs, please review and consider addressing. I can successfully use relay through desktop browser so I know it works otherwise.

Online suggested down level version. Guess I will have to do that.

I’m experiencing the same issue on my server. I can stream content outside my network using my iPhone over mobile data, but it doesn’t work on my Android device-it keeps giving me a ‘source error.’

same for me with “source error” on my matepad pro 12 but browser listening is working.
But it’s working on my android phone !
And i am in Switzerland the problem is the provider.

Getting Source Error as well since the latest Android version.

Samsung S20 FE on 5G with latest Plex client (also tested with latest beta).

NAS Ugreen DXP4800+ running the latest version of Plex Server as Docker Container.

Plex Pass user.

Had to rollback to earlier version to be able to stream from server when remote.

C’mon team, give us a hand, please.

bug is well known. I do not know why they won’t fix it. I reverted to an older plex app version and will continue to ignore their new (slow) app.

Does the Plex support team actually read these posts?
The thing is you cant officially send a support ticket to get them to look at it which is a bit frustrating.

Exact same issue. My app auto-updated overnight and my entire day at work has gone to crap because I lost all my existing downloads and can’t remote stream or download new ones.

I can even VPN into my home, but no long have the option to specify manual connections anymore.

I’m having the same issue here. Everything was working fine prior this update. Please fix it.

I had the exact same issue. It is an issue with the current Android app version. Here is a work around:

  1. Uninstall Plex from your Android
  2. Go to Plex for Android - #502 by PlexAndroidReleaser on your Android
  3. Scroll to almost the bottom, and download “Plex for Android 10.26.0” to get the previous version of the app.
  4. Install
  5. ???
  6. Profit

Idk what Plex broke in the current app, but it doesn’t work for remote access for a lot of people now. I’ve read it has to do with CGNAT which sucks because I don’t want to have to pay my ISP to remove me from it.

Friendly nudge. Plex team can we please get acknowledgment?

Please fix the app. Still broken.

Adding in another nudge. My app was working fine until it updated overnight, now any time I try to use my Android phone off my home wifi (either on other wifi or cellular), I get a Source Error and retry does nothing.
