# Let server set a CUSTOM remote stream bitrate limit

I really wish I could set my own bitrate limit on the server side. I would like to set higher than 40 mbps so that users can direct play most 4k webdl movies but transcode 4k remux files so their internet speeds don’t choke on it and also to preserve their data caps. 40 mbps seems to still transcode most 4k films to 1080p, even ones that have a bitrate of, lets say, 25 mbps. So please let me either set to a custom speed or give more options higher than 40 mbps.

Are you talking about changing the options available for `Settings` \> `[ServerName]` \> `Remote Access` \> `Limit remote stream bitrate`?

There’s a chance this transcode is based on some other criteria, e.g. a client quality preference or the video not being compatible. The [server logs](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/) or playback details in some clients should list what’s causing the transcode.
It’s worth noting that quality/bandwidth limits apply based on the maximum bitrate which can significantly exceed the average bitrate of a video.

I think this _might_ be it actually. I don’t think it has much to do with other criteria, since the user is able to direct play when both server and client side limits are set to unlimited.

FYI, peak bitrate in UHD Bluray remuxes can sometimes exceed 100mbps.

I just think that limiting transcoding execution by CPU is wrong because it can be transcoded by GPU. They should have updated this already, as my server can run directly above 2000Mbps, but this processor limitation restricts it.
I think they should set 1000 Mbps, 2000 Mbps, 3000 Mbps, 4000 Mbps, 5000 Mbps… in the limits both remotely and locally, so it wouldn’t restrict conditions by processor or GPU; the server owner would choose the limit rate. Limiting by a 2010 i3 or 2010 i5 processor doesn’t make sense; processors have evolved a lot, and so have GPUs.

isso, nao limitar os bits de video por harddware e voce mesmo escolhe uma taxa para seu servidor.
