Come on guys it has been 3 years. Is anyone looking into this feature? It is really important for Home Theater users with scope screen and masking. Subtitles are unuseable. Give us “bottom of the video” or a percentage slider to move them…
The current implementation is horrible. This is the only feature I want. Don’t care about anything else. So frustraiting that this was brought up 3 years ago already and noone cares.
I would like to suggest a new feature that I believe would enhance the user experience in Plex. Currently, we have options to position subtitles at the ‘Top,’ ‘Middle,’ and ‘Bottom,’ which is great. However, I believe it would be valuable to extend this feature to the video frame as well.
Suggested Feature: Video Frame Position
Add options to position the video frame at the ‘Top,’ ‘Middle,’ and ‘Bottom.’
Example Use Case: For instance, if a user sets the subtitle position to ‘Bottom’ and the video frame position to ‘Top,’ it would shift the video up. This adjustment ensures there is no black bar at the top, while still keeping the subtitles within the viewing area.
I believe this feature would provide users with more flexibility in customizing their viewing experience based on personal preferences. Your consideration of this suggestion is highly appreciated.
Thank you for your continuous efforts to make Plex an outstanding platform.
My previous comment mentioned that I was confused and unclear about my post, particularly regarding my experience with “Android TV” and Plex.
After studying and experimenting with the settings, I discovered a feature called “Display Mode” with four settings: Original, Letterbox, Stretch, and Zoom.
In the future, I would like you to add options …
Original for Top, Middle, and Bottom.
Letterbox for Top, Middle, and Bottom.
The settings for Stretch and Zoom would remain unchanged.
Example Use Case: Suppose a user sets the subtitle position to ‘Bottom’ and the Display Mode to Letterbox>Top. This setting would shift the video up, ensuring there is no black bar at the top while still keeping the subtitles within the black area below the video frame.
Additionally, I did not see any ‘Display Mode’ on MacOS Plex. I just found out that Apple TV Plex does not have it. I would like you to add features similar to what I described regarding the ‘Android TV’ settings.
The reason I am urging you, the developer of Plex software, to make this adjustment is because some foreign captions are already burned into the screen inside the video frame. When I select captions, such as SDH in the English language, I see a black area below the video frame. Meanwhile, my children and wife can view burned-in captions, specifically “open captions,” inside the video frame. In contrast, I prefer watching with a black area below the video frame.
If someone were to ask me why this is so crucial, now you understand the real reason!
I’m joining the request to add more ways to position subtitles. Both my LG and Samsung internal players have much position options for the subtitles and I can put them inside the video frame without any issue. Is it so hard to just add more positions? Now only one is usable, I don’t think anyone is using the “Middle” one or the “Top” one…
Can you please add option to adjust the position of subtitles with more detail
or at least make them appear at the bottom of a video in 16:9 format instead of at the bottom of a screen(black bar)?
They don’t care. Everyone is probably hard at work implementing useless features for useless Live TV crap or something like that.
I suggest everyone to switch to PM4K. You can adjust subtitles there. This will never be implemented to native Plex client. Devs are useless. How the hell don’t they implement proper subtitle features for MEDIA PLAYER is absolutely baffling.
It would be great to add this subtitle position to PLEX players.
This would be helpful e.g. in home theaters on the 2.40:1 screens where adjusting the 2.40:1 content to fit the screen (masking black bars at the top and bottom) makes subtitles at the bottom not visible.
Subtitles at the center of the screen are a bit annoying
There are 3 or 4 discussions about this, but this is the right one. Subtitles need to be over the video. Many of us have projection setups that zoom past the black bars. I understand though, the video could have black bars in it. So I think the answer is to have additional position settings “16:9 bottom position” and “2.40:1 bottom position”. This has seriously been broken long enough. Can you please just do the simple thing and add a couple more positions? This can’t be much code to add two more positions. Each one is 3nd grade math against the pixel count.
