Library Radio - plays same songs

Server Version: 1.21.3.4046

Hi, I’ve seen this topic come up before, but no resolution that I can see(1, 2) and it hasn’t been fixed with server updates. When I play Library Radio, I used to get a good mix of songs from across my library, but recently it plays the same songs in the same order (or rather a few different playlists of the same songs in the same order, presumably becasue of the RadioDaysSinceLastPlayed setting preventing radios playing songs more recently than 2 days).

I’m on the latest PMS server (running DietPi on RPi4), and the problem is the same whether I request library radio via the web interface, Alexa, or the Android app.

I’ve tried reimporting the library with no effect (Scanner: Plex Media, Agent: Plex Media, Prefer local metadata: off, popular tracks: on, and in the Library settings, Enable smart shuffling on artists and smart music playlists: on).

Any ideas how I can get Library radio to be more random - I’ve moved over to plex for music with the death of Google Play Music which had a great shuffle algorithm, and Plex’s Library Radio was great, but would love to get it back! Any help very much appreciated.

Same issue here. Library radio ignores most of my 3,000 plus tracks. It plays the same 20 or 30 each time I start the station. I’d love a solution for this issue!

Disable
Settings - Server - ‘Show Advanced’ - Library - Enable smart shuffling on artists and smart music playlists

Thanks v much @OttoKerner , have tried disabling that setting, and tried restarting the server, but I still get the same small number of tracks coming up as library radio. Any other ideas?

Have you disabled fetching Popular Tracks? This feature needs this data.

Thanks @OttoKerner - it was enabled. I tried disabling it, but after it rescanned my library, library radio stil operates in the same way.

Re-enable it.
Then let Plex refresh all metadata of this library over night.

This feature may only work right if you use “Plex Music” as scanner and agent.

Thanks @OttoKerner, will give it a go and will report back. I’ve already got Plex Music set as scanner and agent, and I’ve got ‘Popular Tracks’ and ‘Enable Smart Shuffling’ enabled. Also have ‘Prefer local metadata’ disabled, and ‘Genres: Plex Music’ as I’ve read that those need to be enabled.

Those are solely up to your personal preferences. They have no influence on the library radio, AFAIK.

I abandoned using library radio. Instead, I created a smart playlist.

From the music view, click on the playlist icon and select Create Smart Playlist.

For my filter, I set “Track Last Played” in not the last 20 Days. Depending on the size of your library, you may want to increase or decrease that number.

Each time I run the playlist a get a new mix, and the songs I heard recently get shelved for 3 weeks, giving other tracks a chance.

Credit to @TeknoJunky.

Make sure you follow steps to set sort= random, as he demonstrates.

Thank you, that’s a really good workaround, you’ve saved me a lot of time there! I think for now this is the solution.

@OttoKerner thanks for your help - unfortunately, every time I try and rescan, or refresh metadata, or delete the library and reimport, Library Radio still fixates on the same few tracks, and I can’t work out what is special about them. I think it’s a bit of a weird bug, and I suspect it’s related to an update over the last few months, as Library Radio was working as it should do until maybe the beginning of the year. I’m going to give up for the moment and use @Rooley 's workaround.
