Plex server should really have repositories so that we can just type “apt-get install plex” or something along those lines rather than the current process. It also hugely simplifies the update process as well. This should also include plex pass releases. ---

I concur, I get annoyed with the ritual of upgrading and don’t want an (automated or manual) solution outside of apt. Half the reason I use .deb based OS’s is PPA’s. ---

god yes, its a few minutes of unnecessary work to download and install the .deb manually. Just make a ppa and let us use apt. ---

On my freenas server I use the pkg command to update my plexpass version from freebsd’s pkg repo. I don’t know how OFFICIAL that version is, it’s sometimes slightly behind (which probably answers that question), but it works really well and I think it affords more control than the older freenas plugin update system. Of course the newer freenas versions are going with a docker approach; we’ll see how well they implement that when they finish overhauling the initial botched release. ---
