During live tv playback of a program that is being recorded, if I pause playback or try to rewind or forward, the playback will jump to random spots and only play from those spots. Example, watching football, I will pause the game and then try to fast forward, the timeline will show it is forwarding but when I press play it will only start from the beginning. This happens on various playback devices. Starting the show from beginning or live will have no effect, the playback will still be from random spots in the recording. Once the recording completes, playback works perfectly. This has been an issue through multiple releases (not sure when it stopped working correctly).
On the Roku, are you direct playing? I’ve found that for me on Roku direct play of live TV (or recordings in progress) behaves as you describe, but if I change settings so that it direct streams then it works. My understanding is that Plex knows about this issue with direct play, and they are planning to address it but it requires changes on both the server and client side.
In the Roku Plex app I go to settings, then video, then set “Direct Play” to “Auto” or “Disabled” and check “Allow Direct Stream”. Check in the web app that you are direct streaming and it might work for you…
Note: My Plex server is Linux - I don’t know if this works for Win based Plex servers, but it is worth a try…
Thank you for this suggestion. When I checked my settings Direct Play was set to Auto and Allow Direct Stream was checked. I changed Direct Play to Disabled but still no luck, as soon as I tried to rewind and play it just kept playing from the live time. Let me know if you have any other ideas ( did not restart the app or Roku after updating the settings, maybe I should have).
My experience is that you don’t need to restart the Roku app for the setting changes to take.
The only other ideas I have at the moment is to check that “Allow MPEG2” is checked on the same video settings screen in the Plex Roku app, and to look in the Plex web app at the dashboard to see if you can verify that it is direct streaming. Next to “Now Playing” make sure to click on the Show Details button ( ) to be able to see if it is direct streaming.
If it is direct streaming and it still isn’t working then my guess is that the difference is the server being Win vs Linux.
