Live TV Transcoder lockup without displaying anything in Plex Web or Xbox One

Dear Support

Since last upgrade when I would start watching a programme on Live TV the transcoder gets fired up and doing its job.
But I don’t get anything displayed in the Web App and on Xbox One… Both just keep loading without ever displaying a single frame, this goes on forever or until I close the App on client side.

What should I do? This is very annoying. Restart ain’t of any help…

Thanks

I’ve seen something similar (but not exactly the same) to this, I’m using an unsupported, but confirmed working TV card.

I removed the DVR and re-added it again to resolve the issue. Any scheduled recordings you have will not be lost by doing this.

Also tried that, it didn’t help with all channels. It started working for some channels but not for others…
I have a supported WinTV DualHD stick.

I tried it on my android phone today, and the very same channel is playing there flawlessly.
Still not playing in plex web! What can be the difference?!

Audio/Video codecs used in the Live TV session not being compatible with the XBox One and Plex Web perhaps which forces a transcode and perhaps an underpowered Plex Server that can’t handle the transcode process in a timely manner. Kind of hard to diagnose anything when the only thing that can be gleaned is you have tried Plex Web (What browser?), and XBox One which do not work but your Android mobile does.

What is the Plex Media Server version?

What O/S is the Plex Media Server running on?

What hardware is in the machine running Plex Media Server?

If you browse to the Now Playing section in the Plex Media Server while watching a Live TV session on the channel in question what is displayed when you hover over the image of the session that is trying to be played?

If you are on a computer (Mac or Windows) my recommendation would be to try the Plex Media Player. You can download from the plex.tv/downloads page.

If a Live TV or even recorded session is not capable of being Direct Played on a client device (Plex Web, XBox One, Android Mobile, etc.) then the server must transcode the video/audio to a format the client device can handle. To be honest the best solution in my opinion when dealing with audio/video streams is to make sure your client can handle whatever is thrown at it. I personally run a Shield TV, Amazon Fire TV (soon to be replaced with a new Shield TV), and Fire TV Stick in my house and can Direct Play any Live TV, mpeg2 where I am at, or recordings I have made that have been transcoded to HEVC (h265). Since my client devices can Direct Play everything my server is not taxed when I am streaming. My son and a friend also use Fire TV Sticks from their homes and can Direct Play as well.
