I can’t get my Apple TV, or any client on the network, to connect to Plex server locally- they always connect remotely. I’m trying to fix how slowly everything loads on my Plex and I’m looking at this as a potential big reason that I’m having so much trouble streaming content. I’ve read through a ton of forum posts that are similar to my problem, but I’m out of ideas on how to fix the problem.
Here’s what’s going on. I can hit the server on my network with the local IP of that device. I have port forwarding and everything configured on Plex’s side for remote access and can tether to my phone and hit the server from “outside” the house at the remote IP. So that’s all good- the problem is that some devices, like the Apple TV in our living room, go through the Plex App to figure out what IP to hit. So while the AppleTV and the server are on the same network, whenever I go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop, it always routes to connecting to the server remotely and says so in the UI. Same thing goes when I try to hit it from a computer on the network using the Plex App. I’v confirmed this as well by unplugging from my ISP.
A common suggestion I’ve been seeing is turning off DNS rebinding on my router, and I’ve done that. I’m out of ideas and it’s killing me. The client is pretty much unusable on the Apple TV because it’s trying to stream content remotely basically.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Also, it might make better sense to put this thread in the Server section as this probably isn’t an issue on the client side of things. If you agree, I’d be happy to move the thread…
I’ve worked through that article before, but I’ll take another pass at it just in case I missed something.

Sure, that sounds good to me, whatever you think is best. I appreciate the response!
Anyone have any ideas? I would be happy to pay someone hourly to help me figure out how to make my Plex server usable. I basically can’t use it right now and am out of ideas.
Is the AppleTV on the same subnet as the PMS?
Can you describe your basic network layout?
Can you enable debug mode player logging to server on AppleTV so that we can see your player logs? I don’t have one and too lazy to read the Log Files article atm.
Debug mode on. Verbose off. Player and server logs.
I’m not a remote access expert, but I’ll guess have you tried putting the AppleTV into
Settings > Network > Show Advanced > List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth
Do you have this issue on physically wired deviced, or just those on WiFI, if just WIFI, do you have any walled garden features enabled (dont allow wireless devices to connect to any local devices directly)
Do you have your correct IP range AND subnet configured correctly on plex server / Network / LAN networks (I had my subnet wrong and it saw some of my connections as remote)
