Local Metadata Not Loading Production Order of TV Show

I’ve very diligently ordered Star Trek (TOS) in production order–which, for instance, makes “Where No Man Has Gone Before” the first episode of the series, as opposed to “The Man Trap”.

I’ve named the files accordingly (e.g., Star Trek - S01e01 - Where No Man Has Gone Before, Star Trek -S01e05 - The Man Trap), and I’ve used MetaX to edit the metadata of all of the files to reflect this ordering with the episode numbers.

I had the series on my server previously in airing order instead of production order. I keep moving the “Season 1” folder out of the library, empty the trash, scan the library, add “Season 1” back in and scan the library back in. I’ve done this at least three times, so clearly it’s a sign I’m going insane on this

For the server settings on “Agents”, I have “Shows” set to “Local Media Assets (TV)” listed first for “Personal Media Shows”, “TheTVDB”, and “The Movie Database”. I also have the library in which this series is contained set to “Personal Media Shows” as the agent.

Despite all of this, the series keeps appearing on the server in airing order instead of production order.

Is there some kind of cache I need to clear when I remove “Season 1”, in addition to emptying the trash? Is it a futile effort to try to coax Plex into loading local file metadata ONLY?

Try Plex Dancing the files, which includes a couple of more steps beyond just emptying the trash.

The purpose of this is to remove all cached metadata and xml data for an item that Plex usually keeps. Also, try setting the series to use DVD order in its advanced settings (Episode ordering):

TheTVDB has them ordered like you describe in their DVD Order listings; their Official Order listing has The Man Trap first.

Because it aired first. And I watched it’s maiden voyage.
There were no DVDs in 1966.
The ‘correct’ order is the aired order.

I’m aware of that, all except the part about you being there for the maiden voyage. The point of my post was to explain how to get the OP’s metadata to line up with what’s on TheTVDB, not to debate what the correct order is.

I am a bit biased.
As such, for me, there’s no question about what order my STOS should be in.

My Fireflys, on the other hand - are a completely different story.
