Server Version#: 4.123.2 Player Version#:N/A \ This may have already been requested as an enhancement. It used to work, but Plex decided to change it for (most likely) corporate reasons. As a modest ‘prepper’, I need something that will work post-apocalypse. Plex, apparently isn’t it. All players seem to work fine as long as they were previously connected… But I wouldn’t be able to add new users, manage the Plex database, libraries, playlists, collections, etc. I will begin my search for a replacement. If anyone has a workaround, please let me know. And thanks. ---

You have to set the clients/server to allow non secure on your local network. you may need to use your servers ip address to get to it. There are instructions on how to do it on the forums here. ---

The reason I posted a topic is that I already searched the Plex support topics and the forum, but everything I searched for returned thousands of items, none of which had anything to do with my issue. Could you please provide a link for a QNAP NAS? The Clients work w/o the WAN. Thanks! ---

@DumbBunn Please let me know when you have a complete offline solution with plex. I don’t think so it will happen. How will the clients know where to connect, until your plex server caches connection info to plex.tv The one thing you can do is apply firewall rules to your server to block all, and allow only the selected lan cidr. You can also use the secure connection vis plex.direct domain, but eventually you need to update the ssl certificate on server which is valid for only 3 months (lets-encrypt). The last part is client, somehow you have to force your clients to connect to specific hostname/ip & port (i.e. 32400), as plex clients are almost closed source, so you cannot do it. Check for something which is opensource. It also depends on how obsessed you are for being offline, i mean you can also achieve completely offline mode in official clients once plex.tv caches your connection information in your client device then you can take backup of the “.ini/.xml” files and use the same. i.e. in windows (plex.ini & Preferences.xml) can be backed up and used again for being offline. Also, I think plex doesn’t want every client to connect to plex.tv every-time they start the client, which will create unnecessary hits to their server. Reason: I think running a large company like plex needs active development and inflow of cash, but our subscription are usually one time, also plex inc. promotes one time subscription and gives us huge discounts, but eventually that’s not enough to pay the salary of their employees, so other ways needs to be incorporated which generates money, also if plex is working under any countries jurisdiction they need to follow their rules and respect the countries regulation in which they might have to collaborate and help the security agencies for fighting piracy or atleast have a mechanism to save their part in future. Also for active development you need the crash & other logs to analyze and improvise the product So I think completely offline is just a hit and try method. ---

IT WORKED!! Thanks, Alucard1, for sending the link. And thank sekthree for putting together the instructions, worked like a champ. As a Lifetime Plex Pass holder, I wonder how Plex makes money! I there a way for me to make a ‘donation’ to Plex? It’s great software, I want to make sure you stay in business! Another software product I purchased a Lifetime license for got around it by renaming their new and improved version. They still maintained the old version, but I (eventually) noticed I hadn’t gotten a update in a really long time. Anyway, thanks again. You can mark this on resolved. ---
