Good afternoon,

Linux Manjaro.
I’m having trouble adding libraries of movies. On a mounted drive.
/run/media/garphylet/Closet/Plex\_Storage/Romance/
Closet is a Mounted drive
Plex\_Storage is the folder
Romance is a folder of Movies.
It will not scan or recognize them. I ran this in Windows forever, and had it up in Pop!\_OS and worked, so there’s a trick here I missed.
We tried:
ln -s /run/media/garphylet/Closet/Plex\_Storage/ ~/Plex\_Storage/
sudo chown plex:plex ~/Plex\_Storage -R

If the disk is automatically mounted by the operating system it more than likely has ACLs associated with it; no amount of chown’ing will allow users/groups who aren’t specifically granted permission to do so to access it.

You can check to see if this is the case by running `ls -al /run/media/` or `ls -al /run/media/garphylet/`. Look for a “+” at the end of the permissions; if present, it means that ACLs are in use.

Likely the best solution would be to set up permanent mounts for the disk using the information found in this forum post:

It also is written to demonstrate how to cope with NTFS and EXT4 formatted drives. By logical extension, any format supported by Linux can be handled using the technique shown here. In all cases, the goal is to give user plex permission to read your media files which Linux doesn’t allow by default due to its strict security model. We will walk through the steps needed …

Thank you, I will certainly try it. And still a great fan of Plex.
