Hello Plex community, I always disconnect the media player app (Netflix, Plex, Hulu, etc.) from the Chromecast device when I’m done playing the media. Netflix and Hulu do a pretty good job of disconnecting from the Chromecast. Hoever, using Plex’s Android app to tell the server to disconnect from the Chromecast appears to do nothing at all on the Chromecast side. It continues to show the media heading you looked at last. It seems like a bug so I wanted to report it but I’m sure I’m in a very small pool of folks who care about that…
I have two Chromecasts (an original version one and a Chromecast Ultra). Both of them seem to be handled by Plex the same way when disconnecting. Once I disconnect from them with Plex, if I want the Chromecast to show the default unconnected screen, I have to open the Google Home app (which always seems to work) and use it to disconnect Plex from the Chromecast. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there some way I can resolve it myself?
Yup, same here. Since at least 8.6.0 and continuing with latest beta from 15 Sep 2020. See here: Chromecast Ultra and 2nd Gen - Error code: h4 (Not Supported) for another report. Though I suspect it has more to do with the Plex for Chromecast being updated recently than the Android app.
Like you, disconnecting from Home works fine. Likewise, loading another app to Chromecast (e.g., Netflix) and then disconnecting from that also works.
@bigwheel: looks like we have another bug here. Please acknowledge.
I have the same issue as well, have to go into YouTube, Cast then Disconnect to disconnect from the Chromecast. Plex just doesn’t fully disconnect from it.
This seems to have been fixed in 8.7.0.20692-beta, even though the change log doesn’t seem to address. I was able to successfully disconnect from my Gen2 Chromecast using my Samsung Tab A. Can anyone else confirm?
Can confirm I was able to disconnect from Chromecast via Plex Android app last night for first time in several weeks. Unclear if an update to Plex was responsible for fixing this - I’m on 8.6.0.20351.
Hi there. So I’ve been investigating this along with the Cast team folks and it seems the Cast receiver logic is doing the correct thing which is stopping playback only when last connected player disconnects. So in order to investigate this issue, it could be really useful if you could share app logs following https://support.plex.tv/articles/201573117-android-android-tv-fire-tv-logs/ .
