This week for the first time I decided to try and (properly) organize local extras for movies. The first one I tackled was Rogue One. It has a large number of online Extras available, but I first attempted to add the “exclusive” Target DVD (blech) extras because they’re small.
There are just two extras videos, and right now my Rogue One tree looks as follows, following the naming convention guide from Plex:
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016).mp4
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\Behind The Scenes
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\Behind The Scenes\Digital Storytelling.m4v
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\Behind The Scenes\Inside The Creature Shop.m4v
Right now that’s all I have. The movie shows up and plays fine, and “Inside the Creature Shop” shows up alongside the online extras (at the end, though I’d prefer it at the beginning), but “Digital Storytelling” is missing:
(Also there’s no artwork for the Creature Shops feature.)
Any idea what’s going on here? I’ve refreshed, re-analyzed, and updated the library multiple times.
Are these files valid mp4 files, do they play locally?
May I see a mediainfo? *
Have you checked the com.plexapp.agents.localmedia.log for errors after refreshing this movie?
Does it change anything if you use the ‘filename suffix’ method instead?
i.e.
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016).mp4
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\Digital Storytelling-behindthescenes.m4v
Movies\Rogue One A Star Wars Story (2016)\Inside The Creature Shop-behindthescenes.m4v
download mediainfo here
(pay attention during installation, it comes with a ‘piggybacked’ installer which asks to install additional crapware. Make sure to set/clear the right checkboxes!)
Once it is installed, analyse the file, then go to:
File - Export - Text [x](Advanced mode)
Yes, I tried doing the suffix method as well with the same results. Refreshed library etc.
I have MediaInfo (and all my encoding tools) on my Mac, and Plex running on a Windows PC. I didn’t see an “advanced mode” so I’m not sure this is enough info but as far as I can tell both files are fine. I can stream the one that appears on R1’s Plex page from the server.
Also just confirmed that they both successfully play locally on the Windows PC, so they didn’t somehow get corrupted during or after the transfer.
A relatively minor mystery, but irritating. I’ll try more extras later or maybe a different film. I was wondering if it could be related to the streaming extras Plex provides (23 of them in R1’s case), but I can’t find a way to turn that off to test the theory.
New info! Just did “unmatch” and it removed all the Plex extras and now both of my provided extras show up, with screenshots:
(Side note: that default cover art must’ve been provided by DVD Fab; doesn’t even have Jyn Erso in it.)
Now testing what happens when I rematch it - I just noticed “Local Media Assets” wasn’t listed first for all of my agents, so I moved it to first.
That was mostly not great. Though it did put my extras right after the trailer, it left some questionable tags from DVD Fab. Still only 24 extras total! Re-did the order for the Local Media Assets in agents again, lowering the priority, and now it shows both extras, at the end, and still just 24 extras.
I can work around the inconsistent behavior, I think, but to me it appears that adding the extras after the movie is in Plex can make it miss some, and the Agent priority makes a difference but has drawbacks.
Thanks for the help. If I notice anything else I’ll update.
