# mobile setup with zero internet access?

I am trying to setup a raspberry pi 3 as a plex media server and a second rasplex on a pi 3 in our van. I do not want to have internet access and prefer to run on a local offline network. Is there a way to do this? I prefer to not use my data plan on my cell phone or a separate mifi account just to startup the server.
my current test setup in my house works only if the PMS server is also connected to the internet (via my home wifi). The rasplex client is only connected to the PMS server by an ethernet cable and does not have wifi or internet access. If I disable the wireless on the PMS and reboot both pi’s, the rasplex does not find the PMS.
I think these are the issues I’m having-
1- the time on the two raspberry pi’s are not matching. I setup the PMS to also be a ntp server but I don’t think it authorizes the time to be used until after it successfully sync’s online. so the client date and time are reset after restart to a old date.
—Is it possible to force the PMS’s ntp server to authorized the time without a valid sync?
2-does the PMS require an internet connection when first starting up every single time?
My concern is that i’m trying to setup a smooth seamless and easy to use media server in our van and i don’t want to have to fiddle with it for a couple minutes every time we get back into our car and drive. I have disabled the secure connection when on a local lan.

This comes up a lot. Search a bit in the forum and you’ll see detailed instructions I and others have given several times.

In addendum, you’ll want to add the car’s network to the authorized network settings on the PMS.

You could be over thinking this entirely.
If it were me and I needed two media displays in my car I would opt for Kodi (Self contained media player). It would be a simple matter to set up one SD card with the media I wanted and then clone the card for the other device. Job done (And no internet required).
