# Move Plex server from Synology to mac?

Player Version#:latest

I run Plex server on my Synology ds218 NAS.

I just bought a M1 mac mini and plan to use it as my media center.

Should I move my Plex server to the mac mini or let it remain on the NAS?

If I move the Plex server, can I keep all my smart playlists, libraries, other metadata like unplayed/played/inprogress?

Ok I’ll start from scratch on the Mac.

Should I run my plex server on the Mac instead of the ds218?

I’m assuming you would advise to run on the much beefier Mac?

When you say keep nas server as backup, you mean keep it running but use the Plex server running on the mac and if for some reason mac is unavailable, use the backup Plex server on the NAS?

That will result in metadata not being in sync.

So, Plex server on the mac will be a better option then?
