# Moving Optimized Files

I am quickly running out of space and wanted to offload my Plex Optimized media to a different drive/letter. I read that there were some problems for people manually adding the folder back. How can I move the files to a new drive without losing the optimization preference for my watchers or without re-optimizing my entire media set?

You should not move optimized files. PMS will lose track that they are optimized versions. If you do move them, PMS will just treat them as another copy of the original and not as an optimized version. PMS will also attempt to create another optimized version if the job still exists.

Damn. Ok so recommendations on what I can do? My optimized files are 1/2 my hard disk.

Personally, I would keep the drive as is and add the new drive to the current library and add all new stuff to that drive. PMS can access multiple locations for the same library.
