Moving Plex to a different volume on a Synology NAS running DSM7

Server Version#: Plex: 1.24.4.5081 / Synology NAS: DSM 7.0-41890 (DS416play)

The volume I currently have Plex installed on is showing signs it needs to be replaced. There’s a low number of bad sectors now detected which have been increasingly very slowly over the past few weeks. Ideally, I’d like to move my existing Plex install to one of the other drives / volumes before the inevitable happens. Is this possible? I’m comfortable working on the command line if necessary.

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered elsewhere. I’ve found a few guides when searching, but I think they’re all for DSM versions prior to 7.

Thanks

DSM 7 provides a built in feature for moving the shared folder to another volume.

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT the PlexMediaServer shared folder
  3. Change the volume in the dropdown
  4. Click SAVE

DSM will now move the shared folder for you, preserving the contents and everything Plex needs to run.

If you need to uninstall Plex, Uninstall using the “KEEP” option (the default)

When you reinstall, reinstall on the same volume you just moved PlexMediaServer to.
