It may be due to the TVDB having different entities try renaming these 2 episodes based on there tvdb entries and see if they'll scan

/Volumes/My Book/Television/CSI: Crime Scene Investigation/Season 8/CSI: Crime Scene Investigation S08E01 - Dead Doll.avi

/Volumes/My Book/Television/CSI: NY/Season 4/CSI: NY S04E01 - Can You Hear Me Now.avi

then hit shift + refresh on lower right of the plex media server.

Renaming the CSI directory so the structure is as shown below gets the scanner to pick the show up and separate it from CSI: NY. It would be nice if the scanner could identify that they are different shows since they are in different parent directories.

/Volumes/My Book/Television/CSI Crime Scene Investigation/Season 8/CSI s08e01 - Dead Doll.avi

Thanks for your help, playstation87. Appreciate it.

Most of my Deep Space 9 episodes didn't scan. The "9" in "DS9" combined with the use of "#x##" notation seems to have confused the scanner. Examples:

<br />
ds9-2x01 - The Homecoming.avi <-- interpreted as Season 9 Episode 2, rest of season 2 ignored<br />
Star Trek - DS9 - 3x01 - The Search - Part 1.avi <-- interpreted as Season 9 Episode 3, rest of season 3 ignored<br />

I'd attach logs but any mention of these files seems long gone and I'm just going to rename the files. The first season was named with "S##E##" notation and that worked fine.

I FINALLY figured out what was giving me issues. Here's what happened:

I have 17 TV shows in my Folder: 30 Rock, Alias, Chuck...Smallville, etc.

The only show that was showing up in my media manager was 30 Rock... I was upset.

I decided to remove the next show (Alias) and see if plex was running into an error with one of its episodes.

I then had 11 shows in my media manager!! Yay! progress!

I noticed all of my shows after and including Smallville were not showing up, just the first 11.

So, I removed the Smallville folder, and voila! the rest of my shows popped up after I rescanned!

I then started adding each individual episode of Alias (rescanning after each new episode) and I found my problem:

*alias - s03e15 - Façade.m4v

*

Then I checked Smallville, guess what I found:

*smallville - s04e03 - Façade.m4v

*

Every other episode works fine, I guess it is the accent on the 'c' that is causing the problem. What I found interesting was that as soon as Plex came across one of these episodes, it would prevent any episode from that show from showing up, and prevent Plex from looking for additional shows. The accent seems to break the scan.

Also a note: I tried renaming the files with a regular 'c' but Plex would act like the accent was still there and stop the scan.

So, my advice is to check for accents in your file names...Hope that helps!

Yeah, that's it! That is also true for all german umlauts (ä, ö, ü, Ä, Ö, Ü, ß). After removing those shows, everything works for me.

@elan: Please add this to the same bug-report.

Numbers in filenames appear to stop movies being scanned (if they appears early in name, or are not delimited from chars). Here some stuff I put together a few days ago:

http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php?/topic/16371-over-1000-movies-but-only-394-scanned/page__view__findpost__p__98128

http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php?/topic/16371-over-1000-movies-but-only-394-scanned/page__view__findpost__p__98232

I believe that they are skipped because the scanner believes it's a TV show (some references in log files).

It only affected around 3-4 of my Movies, so the impact may not be big..

There seems to be a scanning problem with the show "Nip/Tuck". My folder is called "Nip Tuck". If I have a folder "Season 5" with the filename "Nip/Tuck - S05E01" in it, it doesn't work. If the file is directly in "Season 5", it works. Seems to be a problem with the "/".

#24

This file was ignored by the scanner:

/Volumes/Drobo/Video/TV Shows/Star Trek/Season 1/Star Trek - S01E28 - Griff in die Geschichte.mp4

But it worked when I moved it one folder higher (or lower?):

/Volumes/Drobo/Video/TV Shows/Star Trek/Star Trek - S01E28 - Griff in die Geschichte.mp4

Look on the TVDB Site. The show as it is inputted into the TVDB is called Nip Tuck. so it should be TV\Nip Tuck\Season 5\Nip Tuck - S05E01. Try if that works.

/Volumes/Drobo/Video/TV Shows/Star Trek/Season 1/Star Trek - S01E28 - Griff in die Geschichte.mp4

try it again with shift + refreshing in the tv shows section of the plex media server after changing the directory structure and if it fails post the plex media server.log file

#28

For those of you having trouble. Read the wiki post on plex 9 it includes a section on proper naming structure. Also take a look on IMDB or TVDB and make sure your TV show / movie matches exactly to the name that it has on its website.

#29

Plexx did stop scanning after it found the filename "Dexter - S02E03 - Der düstere Begleiter.m4v" with the german umlaut in it. I removed the umlaut from the filename, but it still didn't work. Then I also removed the umlaut from the Meta-tag in the file - and it worked!

#30

for the afp nas issue on the blog, i've noticed that if i mount as guest, about 30-40% of the movies won't get scanned in at all, where as if i mount as a user on the rwlist, it scans in 100% of the movies... i deleted the logs already to get the library back up and running, but it should br pretty straight forward to replicate. hope it helps.

Okay, I created sub-folder "/Volumes/Drobo/Video/TV Shows/Star Trek/Season 1/" and moved the file to it.

In "Plex Media Scanner.log" I always get lines like that:

Well, since it works if I don't use the "Season"-folders, I will just leave it like that.

Still strange, that other shows work, even if I have the german episode names in the filename after the episode number.

After scanning 3 times (after each pass I trashed the DB, since there where too many errors) my Movie Collection, I finally managed to have all of the movies correctly identified.

By doing so, I come across a couple of bugs:

The first one is involving the "poster" plugin and movies with a number as title that already have a pic with the same name in the same directory: i.e. 9.avi and 9.jpg, or 2012.mkv and 2012.jpg.

If both files are inside the same directory, all of the movies in that directory will have that picture at default poster!

I tryed 2 times, each time all of the movies had the pic as poster; then I deleted the DB and relaunched Plex after removing the pic, now all of the movies have the right poster.

the second one is a know bug: many posters aren't loading correctly and the menu shows a grayed "plex" icon.

It seems to me it's not a random problem: the movies/pic that show problems are qute always the same (I made 5-6 rescan).

Although the movies where correctly identified and linked to IMDB metadata and the posters thumbnail are shown in "customize" menu, some posters and backgrounds give an error in downloading.

In one on my attempt, log showed:

"Sep 06, 2010 17:55:40 [0xb1047000] WARN - Error issuing request to: http://hwcdn.themoviedb.org/posters/adb/4bc978d6017a3c57fe037adb/avatar-creating-the-world-of-pandora-original.jpg (22)

Sep 06, 2010 17:55:40 [0xb1047000] DEBUG - Obtained 0 bytes from http://hwcdn.themoviedb.org/posters/adb/4bc978d6017a3c57fe037adb/avatar-creating-the-world-of-pandora-original.jpg"

One last thing:

The poster and metadata plugin give slightly different results each time they run...

I.E.: I remember the first 2 times i run the scan, the "Avatar: Creating the world of Pandora" poster was showing correctly...

And also, the number of pics I could select the poster from is different each time...

Ya that is weird if others worked but that doesn't. Too bad I couldn't have been more help. Bug hunting and finding is a tricky business that I'll leave to the very capable hands of the developers.
