You know, I don't have much of a clue about what you are saying. My reference to Plex connect and openplex was probably more a reflection of my own confusion, don't castigate me for it. Almost everyone else has a better understanding than I do. Who's downgrading cores? Not me, so I'm not sure who you are addressing those remarks to. perhaps a new paragraph would have clarified. I have two AppleTVs, a 2 and a 3. I don't get reboots any longer on the 2, using the Plex app. I don't care that its not supported anymore, it works for me.

Plex Connect is not working since Netflix arrived because plexconnect needs the IP of the plex server (hardly surprising) and Netflix needs to connect direct to the internet and rejects the IP set for plexconnect. So you csan have one or the other but not both. For now, I am choosing to run Plex on my old ATV2, and Netflix on my ATV3. Or both on my Samsung hub. Depending on my mood.

And, just to clarify... I'm so addicted to Netflix and Stan (Australian stream) that Plex has taken a back seat this week, and probably will continue to, for some time to come.

Both Plexconnect and Netflix work for me in Australia, so you must have an issue with the DNS server being used by Plexconnect to forward requests. Are you using the default 8.8.8.8(Google) or your ISPs?

This just happened to me today.... Running 2 ATV 3's with PlexConnect, one wired one wireless. The ATV's won't connect to anything when the DNS is manually configured to PlexConnect. Not even Plex! I have to enable the auto DNS and then I can access everything but Plex... What's happening???

What is your geo-location? What is your settings.cfg? Did your PlexConnect host fall asleep? Did you lose power in the middle of the night or have a network dropout? Did your kids smash your keyboard :)

Thanks for your help. Let's see if we can pinpoint this. Not much has changed in my working setup (except adding a VPN to the PMS box), been good for well over a year now.

- Geo-location... If you mean on the ATV, I am in Canada. EST. If you mean through the VPN on the PMS box, that can change. I've tested turning the VPN on and off and neither works.

- Don't think the PlexConnect fell asleep. I've restarted it in the CMD window several times.

- settings.cfg is below.

- No power loss, network drop out or kids smashing things ;)

[PlexConnect]
enable_plexgdm = True
ip_pms = 192.168.178.10
port_pms = 32400
enable_dnsserver = True
port_dnsserver = 53
ip_dnsmaster = 8.8.8.8
prevent_atv_update = True
enable_plexconnect_autodetect = True
ip_plexconnect = 0.0.0.0
hosttointercept = trailers.apple.com
port_webserver = 80
enable_webserver_ssl = True
port_ssl = 443
certfile = ./assets/certificates/trailers.pem
loglevel = Normal
logpath = .

To reiterate my issue. With the normal setup, ATV cannot access anything. No Plex via Trailers app, no Netflix, no Apple Store. Nothing. When I change the DNS back to Auto, everything comes back but Plex.

Thanks

Probably best to fill this out a this point:

When you fire up your PlexConnect host and set the aTV DNS to manual pointed at your PlexConnect host what does the PlexConnect.log say when you attempt to visit the hijacked app?

Hi,

first post here.

I’m also not getting any Netflix love when running PlexConnect with a manual DNS.

Just in general, things were smoother a month ago.

I had fewer random connectivity issues with wifi and ethernet, certificate re-downloads, etc.

Plex rocks, and can't even imagine going back to ATVFlash.

cheers

I've had a similar issue that I've been working through today - I'm in Australia, as are some previous cases. Thanks to some of the hints above I've had some luck. I had to change PlexConnect's ip_dnsmaster from my internal DNS to my ISP's DNS.

AppleTV DNS = PlexConnect; PlexConnect ip_dnsmaster = internal DNS --> Plex works, No Netflix (and some other channels, not extensively tested)

AppleTV DNS = internal DNS --> Netflix works, obviously this breaks Plex

AppleTV DNS = PlexConnect; PlexConnect ip_dnsmaster = ISP's DNS --> Plex works, Netflix works

If it matters, Netflix web client works on a PC that uses the internal DNS server too.

My internal DNS is a Windows 2008 R2 server, with the ISP's DNS as a forwarder. My ISP is iinet. I did restart DNS during troubleshooting, could clear the DNS server's cache, and see new netflix addresses populating. Nothing special to note in the PlexConnect logs, though it's running Normal logging.

I have 3x AppleTV3s - all on the latest iOS. Plex and PlexConnect are both current as well.

Using 8.8.8.8 as the ip_dnsmaster causes issues in our region, as it appears to bypass the local iTunes servers. (at least it did a few years back when I first set it up).

Will update if I notice any changes.
