Yes you can mount a network share, including your NAS, to the NVIDIA Shield using Samba. Check out this [article](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/220391808-Media-Storage-Options-for-NVIDIA-SHIELD "article") for more on storage options with the NVIDIA SHIELD. It covers USB and NAS options. For your case, see the section `Connecting to a Network Location (SMB).`

I have several of those in my flat, covering my needs for flat and linux-iso-sharing. Also backups of my PCs and customers PCs are stored on those.
Not the best performance (comparable to a internal HDD, up to 50MBps) in Raid 5, but it works for 2-3 simultaneous streams.

As far as transcoding video on the Nighthawk X10… Plex created a FAQ on the X10 that talks about transcoding… it says…
“Can the Nighthawk X10 transcode video?
Yes, but there are limitations. As mentioned before this device resembles the Netgear RN2xx series in specs and performance, thus this device as well as the RN2xx units can transcode video. The same restrictions that apply to the RN2xx series also apply here, so when transcoding video it is not powerful enough to handle more than one transcoded stream (re-encoding the video content). When a video transcode is necessary, output will be limited to 480p maximum resolution.”

doesn’t seem this wil perform well if you rely on transcoding

Well that’s def a tad disappointing. Think I’ll be passing on that then. I would have considered it if it could do NAS mounts and 2-3 transcoding streams (720p at least, but 1080p would have been nice).

I was going to ask how this device handles transcoding, and see it’s already been answered. In other words, this is a support case waiting to happen for everyone that buys this router and then has buffering issues when they try to transcode more than one stream at a time.
I wonder if the Team is going to be on hand to deal with all of the support issues running PMS on this router is going to create. Or is this going to fall on the Ninjas and others that frequent these forums?

It’s totally unsurprising. What’s “disappointing” it that Plex ever allowed such a predictable failure of a “solution” to even happen in the first place. It’s going to be a support nightmare and do more to tarnish Plex’s reputation than even the Plex Cloud fiasco. This POS PMS solution is going to get maybe 1-2 PMS updates before Netgear EOLs the thing and then as the PMS version becomes more and more outdated users are going to be up-in-arms that things start breaking because they required updated version of the PMS.
There’s a reason people are told on these forums to not try running PMS on the Raspberry Pi or use the built-in Plex app in their “smart” TV.

I am more that disappointed… Wireless and wired had the same result. Can’t access network files not on the USB. Buffers extensively and pixelated. Will be returning.

As mentioned many times Plex cannot get it right on the Shield ( I suggest there is a helluva lot more shields sold than are/will be x10’s ).
So fat chance the x10 will get Plex attention for very long (or at all)!
