I have been using Plex Pass for many years. My setup is to have a Plex server on a NAS with 3 NVIDIA Shields attached to 3 TVs. I use an HDHomeRun to provide live TV. This setup works well for both watching live and recording live free-to-air TV. If I am watching a TV program on TV no 1 and then I start to watch the same channel on TV no 2 Plex will offer to “Watch from start” or “Watch Live” This works well and also works with the web version.
Neither of the new apps offer this. If I am watching a program on TV no 1 and choose the same program on the app then, the android app will play the programme from the start without offering to “Watch from start” or "Watch Live “but it does have a scroll bar which you can move to access later parts of the show. However, using the bar seems to make the screen freeze, after several minutes (3 I timed it!) it may catch up or just freeze permanently. On the iOS app, again the programme will play from the start without offering to “Watch from start” or "Watch Live”. There is a scroll bar, but this does not work; it simply flicks back to the start of the white line.
I have monitored the load on my Plex server during this time and the CPU usage never exceeds 50%.
The Android app is on aa Samsung S23 Ultra and the iOS on a 2nd generation iPad Pro.
Also both apps keep losing “Favourite Channels” You can set them up but when you return to them, they are unavailable and the app sometimes hang.
Having the exact same issue when trying to watch a recorded show goes
right to the start of program and moving the bar to try to forward to go live causes it to freeze. With all the work and supposed testing how they can release these apps with such an obvious issue is inexplicable.
I also don’t like the design of the new live tv guide. Instead of being able to simply scroll across to get to the time of day you are looking for you have to click on the arrow like the on the web version it takes longer and
Guide updates slower when I get to primetime the guide is blank.
Also no option to see what upcoming shows you are recording.
They have taken a great app and experience and ruined it.
Makes me wonder what will happen when they release the new tv apps
Will they be as bad! I’ve had lifetime Pass for many years, bought it on sale for for $95. For it to be more than double the price for new customers is shocking, they say that current lifetime members will not be affected but makes me wonder if they will eventually add new features and say that even with lifetime pass if you want you’ll have to pay more. I don’t know wno would actually want to pay the new price! This seems like pure greed, if your going to completely redesign your apps under the premise of making them better as a reason and making other improvements then you better make damn sure that’s the case! I go by the old saying “If It ain’t broke don’t fix it” [update] I was able to download an an older version of app on ApKMirror. I downloaded version 10.25.0.2461 and it’s great having it back on my phone and tablet, hopefully they won’t eventually force me to upgrade to that disaster unless they finally fix it. If you do uninstall new app and replace with older version be sure to disable auto update in Google Store. Thank God for Android!!
Yes I share your worries about the TV app. I might start testing Jellyfin.
First thing that popped up when I searched for this issue.
I have same problem, on Apple devices (not tested on Android), works in a browser.
(also hate the redesign, looks ugly)
