New EPG and release

As well as all the problems mentioned above, I’m also noticing that when it does record a TV Show, its not marking it as unplayed in Plex. Is anyone else seeing this behaviour? Its making it difficult to spot whether it missed recording something or recorded it but just marked it as played.

The guide data seems much closer to correct lately, a thumbs up for that. Still would like to see the red record icons on the guide only show the actual episode being recorded, not be there on all instances of the show whether that one is recording or not.

I second that. It would be nice if there was a grayed out recording indicator to show it was part of a schedule but didn’t qualify because it was a rerun or whatever reason.

The lack of ‘new’ tags for the BBC in the UK makes the service somewhat pointless.

We are not just ‘users’, we are paying customers. It has been broken for over a month.

Please provide a timescale for this issue to be rectified. If it does not occur in a timely fashion then I see no reason to keep paying for a plex pass.

I do not get my guide data from ‘TiVo’ or anyone else, I get it from Plex. Do not use poor supplier selection as an excuse to your customers, that is just lazy.

I am escalating this.

@sa2000 - I can’t remember if I mentioned it or not in one of my previous posts but is the issue of not being able to search for Movies in the EPG by actor being broken since the new EPG came into effect being investigated?

Whilst not a EPG data is there is rather odd issue in PMP at least…

If you search for a Movie, in Live TV & DVR, by name (and it is present in your library) the result under Libraries will show None unless you have navigated to Libraries at least once. PMP seems to cache the library contents when you click your top level Movie Library the first time and then the search when you are in Live TV & DVR works correctly.

@sa2000 - I’m not sure what category this falls under. Guide data inconsistencies I guess?

Recording schedule shows Three Stooges on 788 recording from 9pm-12am, with generic metadata.

image image

If I go look at the Live TV guide for tomorrow night, it shows The Three Stooges on 788 not coming on until 10:30pm actually.

And then if I go look at the Comcast Guide, it actually shows The Three Stooges on from 9-10pm and has the correct episode data.

As much as I hate to hold Comcast up as a source of truth, here we are.

So…you find it astounding that other users feel cheated and severely disillusioned by the ongoing Plex management of DVR guides, etc. Bully for you. People with lifetime Plex Passes paid good money on the face of a demonstrated nice platform, only to have the rug pulled out from under their feet. A ‘crack on the head’ from a heavy fall is surely enough to make us see red and feel cheated and wanting compensation.
Having outlaid good money for a Plex Pass, we’re not inclined to just walk away. If Plex is going to reduce quality of the product like this, it’s obliged to refund the money paid by holders of the Lifetime Plex Pass that want to walk away. It should also be liable for damages for the insulting treatment, grief and hurt caused by Plex’s maladministration of this service.

I fully agree with this and this is also supported by UK consumer law…

My understanding (and please correct my if I am wrong) is that we have notified Plex of most of the problems with the guide, we have tried to help out, report issues, spent hours and hours of our own time finding these issues, reporting them, and re-testing them when we have been told they have been fixed - sometimes to find they have not or there are more problems.

However, here we are nearly 5 weeks after the problems with the EPG started and we still do not have a fix that is as good as the Gracenote data prior to the 1st of July. We have paid good money for a certain service level - this service level, whilst I don’t believe it is defined, should be as good as what we had before with Gracenote.

I am not a laywer (just a simple software engineer - programming since the age of 11 - 36 years ago) and I believe that our patience goes far beyond the definition of giving Plex “reasonable time” to fix the problems as stated by UK consumer law.

@sa2000 Can you give any indication of when you expect all the reported problems to be fixed?

I also find it astonishing that Tivo can have their guide data in such an unusable state here in the UK. I can’t remember if Tivo set-top boxes were officially sold here - but I certainly knew people that had and loved their Tivo’s here in the UK - some of them now use Plex and are the reasons I bought a lifetime Plex pass back in December last year. I don’t know if it is still true, or whether it was an old wives tail, but years and years ago I was told by someone in the industry that the Virgin Media set top box for cable TV was engineered by Tivo - if again this is the case, how can the service be so bad?

Don’t believe any reasons given to you by PLEX. They’ll make things up and blame everyone else for their problems. Just because they say the problem is with the data from TIVO doesn’t make it so.

I’ve just got in from an evening out and fancy watching a bit of TV before bed. However, the EPG seems really messed up with a lot of “Channel Name Programming” or “To be announced”:

Now

The full list of effected channels is as follows with what text the EPG is showing:

002-2 BBC 2 Programming
004 Channel 4 Programming
006 ITV2 Programming
024 ITV4 Programming
026 ITV Be Programming
027 ITV2 Programming
029 4 Music Programming
031 Paramount Programming
033 To Be Announced
049 Unknown Airing
054 Radio Programming
058 ITV Be Programming
059 ITV4 Programming
063 Unknown Airing
065 TBN Europe Programming (This is TBN UK - Not TBN Europe)
073 To Be Announced
077 BBC Scotland Programming (This is TCC)
080 Unknown Airing
100 Unknown Airing
102 BBC 2 Programming
104 Channel 4 Programming

What the heck has happened - I thought we were getting better data now that we are 5 weeks on?

Not only this but I have no data past the end of next Saturday (10th August) even though I have been performing a full refresh of data over the last week :frowning:

I have been watching this thread and others elsewhere in utter dispair. I have lost count of the number of times I have deleted and rebuilt my DVR trying every option and it is so tedious I only bother with a few primary channels now as I know my efforts will be wasted! I arrived at Plex after excursions into TVmosaic, Emby and HDHomerun DVR. Plex with its previous Gracenote EPG was great for the variety of access options I wanted. Then this total debacle. I am close to reverting to one of my rejected options and demanding a refund of my lifetime Plex Pass, to do so will break Plex’s access to my Tuner setup, at least with one option, so I am reluctant to do so, but unless the “management” get a grip on the back room coders who clearly see the delivery of an accurate consistent EPG as some kind of arcade game for their amusement, I will have no choice.

After yet another guide refresh last night, as I was typing my last message, we can now add:

003-15 ITV 1 Network Programming
018 More4 Programming
019 Dave Programming
025 Yesterday Programming
047 4seven Programming
079 Dave Programming
086 More4 Programming
103 ITV 1 Network Programming

The following have changed:

033 ITV 1 Network Programming (Not sure if this is any better really!)

The following have been fixed:

004
031
104

I now have data up to Friday 16th August rather than the 10th.

However, There are some odd programmes showing “To Be Announced” on channels that seem to have data. For example:

Dave

I will also kick off YAGR at some point today and see what happens!!

Hi - I have been busy for a week and thought that Plex may have got their act together over the EPG issues
Incredibly EPG is even worse than before whole channels missing all PROGRAMMING data as many have stated
I did yet another retune and EPG download to no avail
Seriously is nothing being done to fix this

I just checked this morning and see the same issue. What happened? More importantly, when will it be fixed?

Very strange. I seem to have a fully populated guide on my iPad client, but this problem on my iMac client. Maybe the iPad client guide is still caching an older scan of the guide… I logged into the web interface and saw the problem above (BBC/ITV programming all day).

Good luck with that. We all entered into a contract with a company in California. The Plex terms of service detail that it’s subject to the laws of the State of California (although it doesn’t specifically say that any action has to be brought in a Californian court).

You would have to use Californian consumer protection law. You may have to bring that action in a Californian court, or find a UK court that would apply Californian law (and a lawyer who knows it well enough).

Again, I’m not a lawyer but I’ve been exposed to a lot of these types of Ts and Cs as part of my job.

If enough people felt strongly enough about it then a Class Action suit would probably be the most effective route.

Actually, this is patently untrue. The law is explained here:

The key part is:

If you are a trader based outside the UK but market your digital content to UK consumers, you will still be covered by the Act and should seek specialist advice.

Being subject to the laws of California has a specific legal importance within the confines of the USA, but it means nothing outside of your borders.

As others have noted, TV Guide today for STV Central OTA:

screenshot-2019-08-05-0957

No BBC 1, 2, 4, Scotland. No STV, ITV 2, 3, 4 or Be. Of the Ch4 family, only 4/104. None of the Channel 5 channels. No Drama, no Challenge. As ever, no Paramount, Blaze Smithsonian, TCC, Forces TV, etc. Also true of all +1 channels.

In total, 45 channels with no channel info at all.

Apologies - my experiences with this were prior to 2015.

That said, the process for doing anything with it seems to be less than clear. The most helpful documentation I could find is here: https://www.hants.gov.uk/business/tradingstandards/consumeradvice/goodsandservices/overseaspurchases

A cursory reading suggests that if your Plex Pass cost more than £100 then the best route to recover it might be through your credit card company.
