New Xbox One App preview

There seem to be quite a few things missing. Where are the thumbnails during fast forwarding and the DVR? Those are in the public version too right?

I’m a little late to the game here and this in no way covers all of the topics here. In regards to audio being out of sync with 4k HDR and HD audio (DTSX/Atmos/etc.); I’ve been obsessing over this for a couple of months and decided today to try one last thing and it has fixed it for me. When I switch the Xbox audio in console settings to match the audio of the playback file (DTSX/Atmos) everything is magically synced. This seemed counterintuitive to me as I assumed this would make the Xbox transcode to PCM, then re-transcode to the other format. This doesn’t seem to be the case. The only “issue” here is you’ll need to buy the audio licenses/apps from the Xbox marketplace.

Just noticed a new feature of the preview app. The different TV Show (Anime and Series), and Movies (Movies and 4K Movies) libraries I have now have their own ‘Recently Added’ entries on the Home Screen. I love this feature. It may not seem like much, but I think it’s fantastic! However, it would be nice if the number of items that you could scroll through in each of those sections was a little bit more. Keep up the great work!

This feature is still included. It’s actually easier to get to now. Instead of going to a different screen, select the options button next to a pinned library on your sidebar, where you would unpin it, and select to order it there. You will just move each pinned item up or down from your sidebar. The relevant sections on the Home Screen, i.e. Recently Added, will be reorganized automatically.

It transcodes because MS requires apps to have their audio mixed in with system sounds like notifications. A feature to bypass this for certain apps would be a very welcome feature.

I’m going to defend @Moussa here. If someone is gung-ho enough to enter the preview program they should be savvy enough to check settings to see what isn’t working. If someone can’t troubleshoot simple ‘menu items’ like this maybe the preview program isn’t for you. Not trying to put anyone down, I’m just saying the preview is not, and should not, be for everyone. Stick with public releases if troubleshooting isn’t for you.

@Moussa I would like to add to this post. Also when viewing cast members, when selecting a cast member to see what they are in, it would be fantastic if we could see what Movies AND Shows they were in. Not just one or the other from the source content.

I think you’ve totally missed the point. I’m more than computer savvy enough to figure out the issue. If you scroll above, I was the one that found out the fix myself. So, obviously, you’re barking up the wrong tree here. The point is more, even if you opt into a preview, it’s fairly reasonable having some sort of notice saying “hey look, this setting is going to change”. Because, bear in mind, one of the whole point of hosting previews is so that “regular users” can contribute their thoughts and opinions. If only savvy users entered previews, you wouldn’t necessarily get the right feedback as to how to cater to the majority.

It’s all good now, and not the end of the world but it’s got nothing to do with who should/shouldn’t take part in a preview. It’s hardly a damning criticism, just feedback saying “if you’re going to change a setting, let the user know”. Everyone, including devs/maintainers makes a tiny oversight now and then. Nobody is complaining that the update is total garbage or anything. It’s just a pretty reasonable piece of feedback/reminder.

Sorry jf352, that was not a statement directed at you. I tried to emphasize that with the words I chose. It was supposed to be a general ‘idea’. I do however see your point about getting the best feedback.

I know, I’m just saying the point is more asking that maintainers/developers give people a heads up if settings change in the preview, because if it changes without documentation in the preview, then it could easily be something overlooked for the final release. I mean, even if it was already planned to be documented in the final release, it’s still useful to give people a heads-up because if you have to dig around the settings to figure out why your server has suddenly stopped working, it can be something that blocks assessment of the app for a while until you figure out what changed. It’s a really obvious toggle, but it’s one that a lot of savvy & regular users will overlook because they may not have realised their server was determined to be “insecure” in the first place, so would assume it’s a code bug or some obscure setup reason.

As far as I knew, because I check the server status on a probably weekly basis it was “secure”. At some point without my knowledge something in my network must have changed and I only realised it after entering the preview

Hey, I’m already agreeing with you. You’ve made a solid argument. +10 for documentation.

I for the life of me can’t figure out how to enable early access on the xbox app. help

The support for mpeg2/ts will be added?

Please can you work with Microsoft to bring support for DTS, Atmos, dtx-x. to the Plex for xbox app.
Both Netflix and Amazon do Atmos.
There is a Dolby and dts app in xbox, and it sounds fantastic.

I have an LG OLED TV, I tried the plex app on the TV. This plays UHD, with HDR/Dolby Vision + DTS or Atmos or DTS-X. It does direct play, no streaming required. I’d rather use the xbox app however.

Has anyone been able to control the preview app with Alexa? I just moved back to use Alexa and the Plex skill is not seeing the Xbox at all. It sees any of the other Plex playes on my network without issues. Have tried to:

  1. Log out, force close the app and log back in again
  2. Uninstall and reinstall the app
  3. Unlink and relink the Plex skill
  4. Set insecure connections to always in the app settings.

None of these worked.

Here’s a bug. My Xbox One Plex app got updated to the early release tonight, not sure exactly when it was released.

However, immediately after upgrade I lost the ability to cast to the Xbox. I had to revert to the standard XBO Plex app to get the ability to cast to it.

early-release preview was released to production app, it is no longer possible to opt in or opt out.

Any outstanding issues, please report in a new thread, and provide as much details (client and server) as possible, along with any applicable screenshots and client/server logs.
