I am trying to figure out why a TV Show I just added is not showing up in my Plex Library. I am not sure if it is because the User that added the file is one of the User accounts I added to the server, or if that matters. I have it labeled as “showname\season\showname-sXXeXX-Title.ext”. My other shows show up just fine and they have a different user assigned to the folder. I am not sure if that would make a different.

What would be helpful to help determine the cause of the issue.

Thanks,
Tony

it should not matter if you mean Plex accounts. when you add a show you just add it to the main folder that has all the other files and hit “Scan for files”.

if you mean a different computer account there could be some permissions issue on the file I suppose

I have a server with different user accounts that I gave read/write permissions to the area plex points to where media is stored. I am wondering if that will make a difference with plex being able to read the folder for the library.

If none of the above, but all others are being seen,

1. Check naming & structure
2. If MP4, make certain there is no conflicting metadata (title / name) embedded which makes the otherwise good match ambiguous.

All of my other content I have recently copied over have shown up just fine in my Plex Library, so I don’t think it is how the files are stored. I am using an UnRaid Docker if that makes a difference. The only one given my problems is the one I just added recently. What would be the best way to check the metadata for the series? As far as I know I have the naming and structure is done the way that is recommended by Plex.

Is their a limit on how long a name can be for Plex to recognize the file?

Could this recent announcement have something to do with my difficulty seeing the newly created library content

Those threads have been subsequently closed in favor of continuation here. Please do not create new topics as it only creates more work and confusion. I also ask: Don’t cr…

Since they did implement the new V3 API , and are working out issues with backward compatibility to what you are using, it’s very likely the cause.

In that master thread, Scott from TheTVDB did update everyone.

One other question. When I look at the TV Show library in the folder view it is not seeing the folders in the Library. Yet when I look at that location in a terminal it sees all the folders in that directory. Could that also be a factor as to why it isn’t seeing the files.

It’s very possible that user `plex:plex` can’t read there.

Common directory permissions to use `755` with you as the owner.
Common file permissions to use `644` also with you as the owner.

I got it figured out, it wasn’t pointing to the right directory. Sorry for missing the obvious.
