So, if you aren’t familiar with [OpenELEC](http://openelec.tv/), it’s a linux based XBMC platform that basically completely lacks any underlying operating system. There are many advantages over using Mac, Windows, or a linux distro like Ubuntu: -extremely fast and easy installation (about 5 minutes) -boots very quickly, uses little RAM, and requires less than a gigabyte of space (can easily be installed on USB drive or SD card) -all changes to your system are made within XBMC -no way for XBMC to be interrupted by some other program or OS notification -if XBMC crashes, it’s automatically relaunched -automatic updates Considering the Plex Team’s focus on ease of use, an OpenELEC-like installation seems like a perfect match. Once you start using OpenELEC, it’s hard to go back to a full operating system for your HTPC. It would also drastically lower the cost of entry to use Plex’s flagship client. No need to buy a Mac or a copy of Windows. Since it uses less resources, you can also use cheaper parts. Using PleXBMC on OpenELEC is an option now, but a fully-fledged Plex client would be amazing. ---
