# Passkey Authentication for Plex Accounts

It would be great if you could log into your plex.tv account using a passkey ([Passkeys (Passkey Authentication)](https://fidoalliance.org/passkeys/)) as opposed to an email & password.
In contrast to passwords, passkeys are virtually unphishable, easy to use, and highly secure by default - and there’s no need for a second authentication step like TOTP. They are being pushed by Microsoft, Apple, and Google (you can even sign into your Google account using a passkey: [Google Online Security Blog: So long passwords, thanks for all the phish](https://security.googleblog.com/2023/05/so-long-passwords-thanks-for-all-phish.html)) and will, slowly but surely, replace passwords for the majority of online services.
For a service that can permit access to (and deletion of) private content, this seems like a good security step to take sooner rather than later.

Passkeys are **not** the end all be all:

There is some rough edges to smooth out with passkeys, but they are still vastly better for everyone’s security.
Plex should _ **seriously** _ consider adding this due to the recent [breaches](https://www.windowscentral.com/software-apps/plex-was-hacked-security-incident-may-have-compromised-your-account-information-heres-what-to-do). Passkeys, by design a breach-resistant.

Yeah we are at a stage now with AI, that passkeys including physical hardware support is a necessity.
Hackers are getting through Apples security walls, once that happens everything goes if you don’t have PHK support.
Can we get some motion on this
