Photo Timeline Out of Order and Photos in Wrong Date

Hi there,

The subject is not very original, since I just copied an old one ; but this sums it up quite well.

All informations are OK when I check my photo files, but except the last ones, they are all appearing in a totally wrong date in the timeline.

I already tried to rescan the whole library, refresh metadatas, but it doesn’t change a thing.

Thanks for your help.

I’m seeing the same thing. Affects all clients I have (Windows, Mac, Android).
This has also been reported elsewhere in the forum very recently: Different Photo Timeline Bugs in iOS and Mac Players

Still the same with the 1.24.5.5173 update.
Any feedback when it’s going to be fixed ?

Any feedback about this issue ?

I tried the “plex dance”, several times : it had no effect on this issue.

Then I tried to deleted my photos library and add a new one… even with a new one, the timeline is messed up !
Not the same mix up than the previous library, but not OK either.
The most recent photos are in the right place, but the more you go back in time in the timeline, the more photos are shown under a wrong date.

It’s been a month since I posted the first message, is anyone from the plex staff even reading this ?

Not fixed with the 1.25.0.5282 version.

Same problem. It’s really annoying

Not fixed with the 1.25.2.5319 version.

Same problem on QNAP with Version 1.25.3.5385. :pensive:

Guess what : not fixed with the 1.25.3.5409 version.

I would say it’s even getting worse, now even my recent photos are messed up…
The ones that where in the right place before.

Just adding my name to list (again, as I have on the other threads about the same problem that’s been going on years with no response from Plex)

Timeline doesn’t work, for so many people. I’ve been plagued by wrong dates and split dates for ages.

Nothing new with the 1.25.4.5487 version.

I guess it’s much more important to have a nice, shiny and BUGFREE library for all the movies that some people download illegally, than a functionnal library for the family pictures et the memories of our lives :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

it works fine for me, if i delete and re-add the photo library. but randomly comes back shortly afterwards on its own. or if i restore plex folder then run scans it comes back immediately .

the below 2 lines of log files seem to be the time at which it was triggered. if i run analyze on a photo library that was already analyzed and it just scans then timeline is fine. but below is an example of when i run analyze and it decides for some reason they need updated. then it screws it up. but some times i ran analyze and it don’t feel the need to update the files and the results is timeline continues to work.

i made an app, that updates the file name to the date of your choosing. also changes the all the date fields in the meta data to that same date. hoping this would make it easier on plexs ai to determine the correct date.

this is the oldest article i can find on plex forums but i think reddit has older ones.

i have deleted and rebuild photo library dozens of times trying different scenarios to see if there is only certain folders or files needed. but it seems you need the entire plex server folder for photos to work temporarily .

like others have said it is plex keeping a record of times/stamps/hash of each photo. if you have wrong info before and it scans it then your done in the future.

strange thing is. when you delete the photo library and add it back. its perfect. so what ever combo scanning method they use works fine.

BUT when you run analyze (sometimes) it messed it up and try’s to update certain photos and then the timeline is screwed up.

the funny thing is. this is a feature for plex pass customers, EVEN though i am, i have it turned off, AND it still has the nerve to send my photos to a third party and in return DISABLE functionality of my photos. All because i paid to be a plex pass customer. :frowning:

I agree totally. think about it, everyone has smartphone. and they use it more for pictures than music and movies, but yet its on the bottom of there priority list. if they wouldn’t send it to a third party for analyze and use the built local scanner it would be fine.

this guy got it fixed. although hes on a linux machine. i need to see how todo in windows.

There is a setting in the photo library named “Tag photos” which is supposed to control whether photo thumbnails are sent off to a third party. Do you have that disabled?

Thanks for the tip. That didn’t occur to me. This actually fixed the timeline (for now). I’ll see how long that lasts…

Same issue since I used plex years ago, and problem is lasting now (server version: 1.25.5.5492 on debian bullseye / plex web version: 4.69.1).
This problem may concerned with the bug: [BUG Identified] Photos Library - Photo Library Timeline Not Working - #13 by ben-page
because wrong date issue occurs on older photos rather than newer photos.
And analizing library was not solved the issue.
I hope to fix this bug, really… TIMELINE IS CRITICALLY UN-USABLE.
