Slide show photos become blurs after viewing 25 - 30 images from local server… About 2,500 photos on Shield server can be viewed without difficulty. However, when viewed from another device on local network, only first 25 -30 image are viewable. All images become blurs after this point. This is a new problem that started a couple of months ago. Before this all of image library could be viewed from any other Plex Player on local network in unlimited quantities without difficulty.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Having first reported this problem to Plex about a year, ago, and given that dozens of you have since added your names to the list of people experiencing the exact same problem: PlexPlayer on any iOS device cannot view more than a handful of photos before the images become so blurred they all look like clouds.
Anyway, today I canceled my Plex Pass subscription because Plex has completely ignore this problem. Adding insult to injury there is absolutely no way to talk to someone on the phone. I believe Plex Pass subscribers whoa actually Plex for virtually no real benefit have telephone support for when things go this wrong for this long.
I urge those of you who pay for a Plex pass cancel your subscription and explain you are doing so because of Plex’s abject failure to address this problem, fix it, and maybe we can reconsider our PlexPass status once been heard and satisfied.
Thanks to all of you who took the trouble to add your names to this forum topic. Now lets close the deal by cancelling all paid subscriptions until this is fixed.
I thought I’d solved the problem with a server reboot; but that assessment was wrong. Images become unintelligible blurs after about 30 slides are shown.
All players are completely up to date, as is server. I have players on my iPhone 11 Pro Max, and ob MacBook Pro mid 2012. I also have a player on my brand new Apple TV 4K. Version numbers are different for all devices. Note that server app on Shield is also fully up to date.
I guess I’m not clear about which Plex client is doing this. You said the shield player is fine. You tagged this Plex Media Player which is a particular app for HTPCs so that is what i was referring to.
So all other players except the Android TV player on the Shield itself is having the issue?
Yes the only player playing slides properly is the one that’s on the Shield, which happens to be the server and holds all the images. All the client players on all other local devices have the problem. (So logic would suggest Shield server is the issue.Or something that has changed on my local network.) There have been server updates, but no changes to my network.
These are just jpgs or some other format? I’m just trying to reproduce here because photos usually have no issues with transcoding due to network because they are so small generally.
I just rebooted my router as the problem appears to lye with local network clients. Seeing some improvement but sluggish image transitions suggest problem may still be there.
if you look at the now playing info and show details on dashboard, does it show being local? ( wondering if it thinks they are remote streams for some reason)
I don’t get that level of detailed info on my iPhone. Doesn’t show wether local or not.
But it doesn’t matter! Rebooting the router appears to have done the trick. I viewed about 200 images on my phone without a glitch! I was only able to do a dozen or two before. Problem is solved! Thank you very much for all your help!!
I was wrong. Problem still not solved. Slide show images become blurs after approximately 25th slide. Slideshow feature useseless unless accessed from device that acts as server and contains actual images. Pictures from Plex client devices other than host server only show 25 slides then go completely blurry. Rebooted server twice logged off and back on all client devices. Problem remains. Host server is Shield TV. Clients include iPhone 11Pro Max and Apple TV 4K.
I don’t think it’s a local v remote location issue. My Plex is setup to only play pictures that are on local network. (Stored on my Shield.) I have the screenshot you asked for. It shows images are streaming from internal Shield storage. ( Can’t for the life of me understand why I can’t simply paste that pic here.) But it does show images are all streaming direct from Shield storage. Please note also that I have 1Gbit internet and and 500 Mbps wifi. Also note an interesting new development: I can now stream unlimited images on my MacBook, but still not iPhone or Apple TV.

And please remember this is a new problem that started about a month ago. Before this I could stream thousands of images on any of my devices without a hiccup. Thanks for your help and understanding. I hope we can have all devices streaming properly soon.
Hi. Did you give up on me? I did an interesting test today. Instead of using the Plex for iOS app on my iPhone, I used Safari and the admittedly clunky Plex Web app in my browser. And that worked like a charm. I was able to play hundreds of images from the photo library in the Plex app on my Shield. So the problem appears to be with the Plex iPhone app itself—not my setup. Using Plex in Safari instead of the iPhone app, I never experienced the problem of all the images going completely blurry after viewing 20 to 30 of them. But by avoiding the iOS Plex app I was able to access all the photos in my Shield library.
Remote streaming: Maximum.
Home streaming: Recommended.
These are the exact same settings I use on all my Plex apps and devices. Also, remember the problem is only when viewing photos, a far less demanding task than video streaming. I never have a problem streaming videos remotely or from home. No matter what the server or device.
The photo problem only appears in iOS players. My iPhone 11 Pro Max and my Apple TV 4K.
I have the same problem with my iPad. Pictures go blurry after 25-30 images. I am sure that this problem popped up recently. November last year everything worked fine.
Could the problem be that the Pictures are in different resolutions?
In my library there are about 2200 images of varios resolutions. And on my iPad i have the problem after about 10 - 20 images.
I am testing right now.
It seems on my Amazon Fire Tv and in the browser-app there no blurry images. But on my iPad, iPhone ans other iOS devices are these problems.
