Plex PIN entry is not implemented well. The main purpose of PIN entry is to safeguard the access code. Your implementation shows the PIN as it is entered which is no good if others are around. Please fix this.

Please have a look at how the PIN for firestick settings is entered as a reference. They made it easy to enter without giving it away.

Firestick remotes don’t have numpads. Refer to how Amazon implemented PIN entry on the firestick and copy this.

Seems like Amazon disagrees with you. They literally use a numeric pin code, it’s just assigned to the directional buttons, and there’s even a “shift” key (menu) to get 5-9. It’s the same feature. You’re just substituting “directional arrows” for “numeric keypad”

Pedantic much?

Thanks for the image. As you can see that is not a numpad. That is a way of entering numbers with the directional pad. This is how Amazon enters PIN codes (which is great) but not the way that Plex enters PIN codes (I want them to copy this method).

Amazon shows this entry screen but the people in the room do not know which direction you pushed to enter a number… hence the PIN stays secret.

Plex makes you enter the numbers in plain visible text so everyone can see it.

BTW - In case you haven’t noticed… we are requesting the same feature. So instead of being argumentative, you could just agree and reinforce the request so that it gets implemented.

The point is the feature request I’m directing you towards is the right one, so your “Nu-uhhh! That’s not it! Because Fire Sticks don’t have keypads!” is asinine hair-splitting.

I’m not asking for this feature, I’m simply linking you to the pre-existing feature request for the issue you are posting about.

Actually, my post is not hair-splitting. The post you linked to is for someone who has a universal remove which does have a number pad. Also, this is a generic streaming forum which could include Plex installed on a TV which has a number pad for channel entry.

Keep your insults to yourself next time.

Again, still can’t see the forest for the trees.
The original point of your topic:

> [@Dheadrick](#):
>
> Plex PIN entry is not implemented well. The main purpose of PIN entry is to safeguard the access code. Your implementation shows the PIN as it is entered which is no good if others are around.

The feature request I linked is for:
[“Hide PIN entry so not everybody in the room can see it”](https://forums.plex.tv/t/hide-pin-entry-so-not-everybody-in-the-room-can-see-it-mod-enter-pin-via-remote-s-keypad/318833)

Amongst the links on that topic, someone making the same complaint as you:

> [@Insecure Firestick Login Pin](https://forums.plex.tv/t/insecure-firestick-login-pin/467495):
>
> When I login to Plex via Firestick, I have to select from numbers on the screen, so anyone watching sees my pin. Not secure and negates parental controls. Please develop a more secure way to login to Plex on the Firestick.

Also someone opening a feature request **specific to the Fire Stick remote** , which was merged into that one.

> [@FireTV: Improve user switching - fix how PINs are entered so not visible onscreen](https://forums.plex.tv/t/firetv-improve-user-switching-fix-how-pins-are-entered-so-not-visible-onscreen/148641):

If they are there I have to ask them to lo…

Do you see the tagged platforms at the top of the feature request I linked? “Fire TV” isn’t just there for laughs. Also Apple TV is there – not aware of an Apple-made remote for an Apple TV that has a number pad. Or a Roku.

The original feature request post made by that user was overly-limited as originally written. They are posting about a Samsung Smart TV and entering the PIN code on it. Lots of Samsung Smart TVs have a remote like this now, though:

![samsung_remote](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/plex/original/4X/3/3/d/33d8cedc4117c324f0f2b967098ecba7797dabc6.jpeg)

> [@Dheadrick](#):
>
> Actually, my post is not hair-splitting.

The feature request I linked is a universal request regarding PIN entry displaying the PIN on-screen while typed, and you’re still repeating this stupid point about how the post talks about a physical number keypad on the remote, despite it now being a merger of other threads for other remote types - which I also already pointed out to you.

> hair·split·ting
> /ˈherˌsplidiNG/
> adjective
> 1. characterized by or fond of small and overfine distinctions.

Also, I will clarify that while I am “not asking for this feature”, I recognize your use-case and still support a change like this. I simply am not voting for the feature because of the limited number of votes we are given, so I am using those for features that directly impact me.
