My wifes Lenovo IdeaPad 520s is having problems playing media using the windows client, videos keep pausing every few seconds. It should be easily capable of playing it back:

  • Intel Core i5 8250U
  • Intel UHD Graphics 620
  • 8GB Ram
  • 5Ghz wireless connection

Sample Video:
* 1080p
* Codec H264
* Bitrate 2050 kbps

My own desktop (2.4Ghz wireless) copes with the same videos just fine.

Seeing this repeated a lot in the server logs, don't know if its relevant:

Any thoughts?

Is this from Plex Media Player, or the Windows store app?

The Plex Media Player, though not in theatre mode

  • PlexMediaPlayer-2.10.0.849-e02dbeca-windows-x64.exe installer

Status when playing shows its in direct play mode.

I did try the full screen theatre mode and activated the hardware acceleration mode there, plus extra large cache and Sync Mode = Display, but it didn’t seem to help with the standard player.

SO hates the theatre mode and won’t use it :smile:

nb. I’ll give the store app a try tonight.

Thanks.

Resolved it in the end - dug into plexmediaplayer.conf, set

  • useOpenGL = true
  • useSystemVideoCodecs = true

Seems to playing smoothly now. I’ll keep an eye on it.

Thanks.
