Hi all, I have a movie on my PC that has 3 folders called BDMV, CERTIFICATE AND UHD!. Can plex play these? If so, where exactly do I put them? I put them in the same folder as my other movies and plex didn’t see it. thanks
You need to rip your movies to a file. Try using Make MKV.
can plex play .m2ts files? and are those files better than .mkv?
Yes Plex supports it but if your playback device does not then the movie has to be transcoded. MKV is a widely used container and is supported by most devices.
Which one has better sound?
Neither.
MKV, MP4, M2TS, etc are containers, like envelopes.
The quality of the audio and video depend upon what is inside - the individual audio & video tracks.
so inside the BDMV folder there is a folder called STREAM and inside that folder there are a bunch of .m2ts files. the first one is usually 00001.m2ts and is the big file. Is the entire movie in that file or do I need all the other files as well.
Just the one you mention.
thanks
I would add that MakeMKV can create the file in mkv from the BDMV with no quality loss, and it takes a matter of minutes.
It’s also in perpetual beta and is free.
what’s the difference between the 0001.m2ts file and the resulting .mkv file from the entire BDMV folder?
Absolutely none. It just gives better compatibility as others have mentioned.
But audio and video are untouched.
You also have the option to strip out unwanted audio tracks and/or subtitles.
where do I download the beta version? the beta link you gave me is just for the key.
There is a download button in the first link.
ok i have the app, but it doesnt recognize any of the files to convert to mkv. plus its looking for an optical drive which i dont have
checkout file > open file
etc
That’s what I do but it says I don’t have an optical drive.
“Open File”
not “Open Disc”
Hi, I did that and I point it to the folder and have it set to look at all files, but it doesn’t find any files that it can start to convert. What specific file is it looking for?
