To anyone confused as to what this is requesting, this is not sorting of a list of playlists, this is sorting within the playlist itself. It pains me but I’m going to compare to Spotify
See the individual columns here? This is what is being asked for. It’s literally just a DB view.
Now look at how sad the Plex playlist view is in both web and Plexamp
You’re objectively wrong here as Playlists are about playback AND organization. You clearly don’t value music listening in the slightest if that is your thought process. Collections do not work for music enthusiasts. The metadata exists and can be done just as easily in Windows view. Not to mention foobar, winamp, hell even windows media player. The difference is I can’t host and stream my music remotely from these so not an option to “just use them instead”.
I’m still baffled this feature request is 8 YEARS OLD! Gonna bump this until there’s a proper response as this basic organizational feature not being implemented from the get-go and has to be requested is mind boggling.
Me too. I ditched Spotify years ago and just didn’t even dream that this “feature” wasn’t present. It’s really made building large playlists incredibly difficult.
New Plex version and still no way to organize with existing metadata. Just add the columns so I can at least sort by artist, album, song. Bonus points if you allow to organize by date/time added.
Okay, so we’re doin’ this? Cos I’m in if this is what we’re doin’. It’s gone on long enough. I agree. You could sort by track view and not playlist. Crazy right? Like I thought I was missing something! I read tutorials, I read reddit posts, I read forums here, Youtube video comment sections. All for nothing. Crazy just crazy.
Yep I’m all in on being an annoyance about this. How does a simple request for a basic feature get ignored for 8 years? I’ll be bumping this every couple days or so until we get a proper response.
Sadly, this continues to be the standard behavior for Plex devs – requests from users fall on deaf ears unless it’s something they wanted to do in the first place. The continued arrogant attitude that the features which users want must conform with how Plex devs think or else they are “wrong” continues to be pervasive. I have other complaints (such as how HORRIBLE the auto-matching behavior is to the point where I want to just be able to turn it OFF ENTIRELY), but Plex folks can’t see past their own bias and listen to feedback. Customer is only right if they agree with Plex’ own opinion.
Don’t hold your breath that even basic features like playlist sorting will ever be done.
This should be on the list of “things we must do…and soon”. It’s bizarre how Plex in some ways is so over-engineered and kick-ass. The Plexamp app is one example. The speed and efficiency of browsing a library is another. So good. Then, as a new user such as myself all high on how awesome Plex is, you’re surprised to find virtually unusable playlist functionality. And then you’re even more surprised to discover it’s been an open issue since 2015.
Definitely not a fringe group. It is an extremely BASIC item that few would even FATHOM would need requesting. It should have inherently been in place the second playlists were a “thing”.
