Hey guys, I just got back from vacation to find out a new update for Plex on my Amazon Fire TV came out and to my shock its horrible. The UI is not intuitive (the older one was much nicer), no way to switch to other servers if they are sharing with you. I'm having some audio issues and selected pass though.

How could this of happened.. please bring back the older version, use that UI and add in your fixed or additions. Honestly you guys should of probably polled the community about this.. I think personally its a big step backwards.. Its something I would expect from a very first version years ago :/

totally agree. it's very hard to read (the boxes are too large), it DOES NOT mark watched videos and partially viewed, making me lose my place, and it doesn't keep my settings (I always have to click folders each time, for example. I have 1000's of videos - I need the folder operation). The app itself works better than before (the mysterious fatal error after the pause went on too long), it's the UI that's messed up

Plex is NOT going to bring back the old version. Ain't gonna happen.

This is ill-advised, but you can downgrade back to the old version:
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/286319/how-to-downgrade-to-older-version-of-plex-on-firetv

You'll be stuck there. Plex will NOT work on that old version.
You downgrade at your own risk.

I realize the situation is not good no matter what you do.
The new app is half broken.
The old app is half broken.
Plex keeps making promises, but fails to deliver.
Users are in a state of Limbo.
Plex needs to make the next move, but is unavailable for comment - as usual.

If you downgrade you're stuck with the old bugs - that will never be fixed.
If you stick with this version you have new bugs and you're hoping Plex makes good on their promises - eventually.
It's a crap shoot.

The new version is not usable, at least for some of us. They fixed the audio problem but it still stutters and drops frames on HD movies. Shoot, I tried watching a low bitrate cartoon on mine last night and my Fire TV Stick actually displayed a warning that it was overheating. I don't even know how that is possible. My Chromecast continues to work normally.

My only two choices are to install the old app or quit using my Fire TV Stick altogether until Plex fixes the new app.

Agreed. I absolutely LOVED the previous interface, it was very intuitive and easy to browse, find things. This new one is completely awful. I hate the layout, browsing is awful and clunky and not user friendly. WHY did you change it!?

#6

I don't get the stutter - unless my app is ready to explode (which it does often enough). At that point I either let it lock up and crash (sending a crash report) or I bail out and: Force Stop, Clear Cache and restart AFTV. Then it's ok for a while.

It seems to effect everyone differently and that's why we need some Staff in here working with users to find and eradicate the various issues - but that isn't happening, is it?

I agree the situation ain't good.

I have to agree after firing up the FTV, the GUI is not user friendly.

Normally I use a Roku for main viewing, even though it requires transcoding. I like being able to easily select my library from the list, select Unwatched, then the Show/Season to check out the time length info, as some episodes don't always record properly (not sure if it's Plex, HDR or just signal interference) and I delete them. Getting to the same point with the new FTV Plex GUI is really not user friendly, with the limited time I spent playing with it so far.

I get bug fixes and moving forward but who ever thought the new UI is more much intuitive is not a designer and at times I feel like we are getting what we call "programmer art". So one of the things I use a lot is I have shared libraries between my friends which allowed me in the old plex to select the plex icon and it would show a drop down of servers I could change to. I have no way to do this now. Luckily I'm just using my PS4 now hoping it doesn't update or auto update to this new design which is several steps backwards in usability.

Oh my god, as somebody who regularly uses a firestick at my parents, and a SHIELD at home, YESS

Sorry don't hate me guys, but being familiar with both, the android TV interface is WAYY better and I hope Plex keeps it (while fixing any bugs and adding in any settings you guys miss like manual connections)

You change servers at the bottom where it lists the server you are currently viewing, this could be handled better but it is the way AndroidTV has been for quite awhile.

issue i am having is with shuffle it doesn't seem to move on to the next show just works on the first then craps out even though the show is fine as I can go back and restart it and it works fine for that 1 episode then craps out again.

I also went you use Plex off my Amazon Fire TV only to find out that the GUI had been updated.

I really dislike the new GUI. It is horribly designed. It is not only an eyesore, but navigation really stinks. The previous version was awesome...please put it back!!!!

Other than the aesthetics/quality of operation stated^...
- For my music, you have to click right 6 times to get to the alphabet filter. Really? why put it on the right side of the screen?
- There is no 'quit' function. You either logout and have to re-link the AFTV or let it run in the background.
- Playing music tracks: selecting a new track sometimes plays/restarts the current track

Can't you put a beta out there and get PlexPass feedback on the functionality and aesthetics before just pushing it out to the masses?

+100 votes for reverting back to last GUI (trying to stuff the ballots)

You can vote all you want. The polls are closed.

is that way the dev's should potentially treat the community. Esp the people who like us are plex pass members.

What "should" be and what "is" are very different things. This is particularly true in the Plex-i-verse.

BTW: Having a Plex pass does not improve your status with Plex. It just allows you to associate with the higher class of people that will ignore you.

Sometimes, in fact a lot of the time, I think the Plex people are like the royalty of Laputa and they have lost their flappers so they do not know when they should speak.

This is seriously disappointing. Releasing a new user interface without even a minimal amount of beta testing is just plain wrong.
The new UI works well on some devices (PCs, Macs) - those that are controlled via a mouse.
On something like the FireTV where the control is via the remote, it's almost unusable.
I haven't experienced the issues with stuttering etc, but I've gone back to the old version because I just don't think the new UI is workable on my device.
I have looked at the possibility of moving to Emby - but, for me at least, the file scan times are way longer than for Plex.
So it's catch-22 - Plex works better at the server end but the UI is broken. Emby has a better UI, but the server end isn't working so well for me.
Frustrating doesn't really cover it.......

Horrrible Version; practically not usable, will switch to another media player soon!!!
