Oddly enough - I added a new TV Show Library to accommodate some ‘New Agent’ testing - and Recently Added come from both libraries (I have two), combined - on my Roku (Manual Management).
Good thing Roku is the weapon of choice in these parts, eh?
(Canadian Translation)
Not even the Great and Powerful Roku can surmount Dueling Recently Addeds for Music. Unfortunately. They’re showing ‘Recently Added’ items - 13 years old. As a Feature - it blows.
As a Bug - it’s got many legs and a venomous bite.
I have 6 libraries of movies 3 of tv shows and with this “new” thing it’s a complete mess !
Tried to add it automatically / also manually / also one by one … none worked.
I also approach the request of other users to restore the “macro categories” in the home.
Or at least it would be more democratic if we can choose, don’t you think?
Thank you
It’s crazy… You lads have 6-10 categories. I’ve started with plex almost at the beginning. I have 25 main categories/folders. Imagine how my screen looks like. I’ve kinda sorted my Web interface via browser by removing manually … But what about external players? Then family etc. No chance…
Why forcing us to marge all… Are you able to filter it properly how we want to?
I really think this should be a 2 way street… But I guess it’s easier to ignore the SUBS folk…
Would be nice to at least write official statement saying recombine your media as this won’t be done.
So I tried out Plex’s latest creation last night – the new Plex HTPC app
It’s got the multiple hubs thing going on, too.
Guess what that last part means – you can’t manually manage the home screen on it. So you’re stuck with all the library-specific hubs.
Meanwhile, the ol’ Plex Media Player still has combined hubs. Also the normal “Plex” for Win/Mac apps still can have their hubs combined too (as of current version 1.29.1.1974).
Updated my server to 1.22.1.4228 last night, and my workaround for the Android 8.11 client stopped working. I lost all home screen hubs except the On Deck row. Rolled back to 1.22.0.4145 and was able to restore it back, but that seems to be as far as I can go now, for anyone else interested.
can we get an ETA on the fix. the newest update today made it even MORE unusable by limiting how many ‘on deck’ (now called continue watching) items we can have… its becoming a joke at this point.
I don’t have an exact ETA I can share. There was a bug in Android v8.15 which limited the hub to 10 items, which is resolved in the 8.15.2 hotfix (currently in beta), but the current overall limit from a server is 20 items, though that will be updated in future to respect the limit the user specifies in settings
Just got the forced ‘upgrade’. Now the Home screen is completely useless.
With two servers used regularly and around 25 libraries under each, there doesn’t seem to be any way to access except through each separate server. Used to be able to see it all on one page. It was helpful to see all the different additions under rubrics of ‘Film’, ‘TV’, etc.–not on a library by library basis.
Doesn’t seem to reveal much thought about different types of users and their needs.
I’m not sure what irks me the most: This insinuation that Plex knows better than I do the best way to access my media or that they can unilaterally force a change that we just have to sit back and accept.
Once you poke around and play with the new controls you can get pretty close to the old method. And like most Plex changes, it’s rough around the edges and they’re continuing to change it.
They’ve also mentioned that having the customization controls based in the client led to it breaking often. So they’ve changed where the customization happens to the Server and ‘dumbed’ the client. Having one point rather than many should make it less likely to break.
And they added this:
to the ‘Libraries’ editing/admin page in the Server settings. Haven’t played with it yet but intend to. I have a feeling that about the time I get it settled/used to it, they’ll change it again!
Wow… what a way to remove and destroy user customization. I appreciate the feature of being able to control what automatically shows on the shared users home screen, but why on earth did you feel the need to remove my ability to show individual sections from any specific library (like Recently Added) and more importantly, to being able to REORDER them the way I want them to?
I guess I’ll never know.
So… new update to amazon fire stick continues to break it more… now you can’t manage your hubs and are forced to stay with their defaults. Do you have a quality control department that does testing before releasing a release?
Adding my voice. this new interface is just a total mess. I’m a subscriber but am seriously considering cancelling my paid subscription to PLEX and finding something else. PLEX has gone from the best media tool to the absolute worst. They even took away the option to have manual layout on your home screen (at least in Roku player). now i have all these newly added lines on my home screen that is a mess, and i can’t change the layout back to manually configured layout.
Noooooo, I just updated the server and now the web client has this god awful Home screen setup as well. Are we ever going to be able to revert it back to the way it was?
Hi @BigWheel and @DaveBinM. Do you have anything confirming this issue is global to all streaming devices or just, as you mentioned Dave, for the Android 8.15 bug. We’re now 6 months since this issue has been raised and it persists.
I was going to post my thorough, step-by-step, reproducible UAT with PMS Linux, stable #roku client as well as #roku-preview client, but I don’t want to waste anyone’s time since this is a known issue and you’ve stated a fix is coming. (BTW… the #roku-preview client completely ignores the “Merge Recently Added Items” checkbox setting in the server regardless of whether it’s checked or not. Regardless of user or server owner. The browser client OTH responds and respects the setting consistently.)
This issue seems entirely intermittent, which can be a huge hassle trying to locate the bug. I’m happy to help UAT, but good grief, this has been going on for a looong time. Can either of you fine folks ping a dev for some kind of ETA on this?
I don’t know what you mean by “UAT” but the combined recently added of pinned libraries of the same type works fine on Roku as far as I can tell when I just checked… If you enable/disable and are on the home screen on your roku you need to leave the screen and come back to it so it updates. The libraries in question need to be pinned and not set to “exclude from home screen”
