# Plex and home automation

Hi,

&nbsp;

I have LED lights in my living room and I would like to dim these lights whenever I play a video via the Plex Media Server. I checked the Plex Framework API but that does not seem to cover my use case. Any ideas on how to do this? I would need some hooks that get invoked for play/pause/stop.

I think the simplest hook to use is working with [Plex Watch](https://forums.plex.tv/topic/72552-plexwatch-plex-notify-script-send-push-alerts-on-new-sessions-and-stopped/) notifications, you can then tie those into IFTTT etc.

It's a tad convoluted but someone has made a workflow [here](https://forums.plex.tv/topic/105749-philips-hue-dim-lights-when-movie-starts/?hl=hue). &nbsp;The far easier option is to just work it into your activities in your Harmony remote (if you have one). &nbsp;There is also a solution for RasPlex... if you search the forums for 'hue' you'll see it.

I do it with PlexWatch and a external script :)
