I have been using the Plex android app for a while and never had issues. Recently it has to buffer every 9 seconds, like clockwork. I thought it was a transcoding issue. I check connection speeds. Everything is fine. My mobile download is faster than at work but no issues at work. So today I accessed my server via Plex web and played videos without errors at full original quality. So the problem is in the application. I’d rather use the app. Any ideas?
I’m having the exact same issue. I have no idea why. Frustratingly, I just got the app a week or two ago. I haven’t been able to watch anything at all since I got it because it just keeps buffering every few seconds. It makes things unwatchable.
I have yet to solve the issue but I have found that it has to do with transcoding and the size of the original file. I have a movie that is 9gb big with DTS audio. At home I have no issues but at my office and on mobile via 4g it buffers a lot! I tried turning off transcoding or playing at original quality which helps but not enough. I looked into things and my old pc running the plex server is very slow. 2.8ghz with a cpu that has a mark of 1700 which by plex standards is way to low. I’m thinking this is my issue so I am looking at building a beefier server in the near future.
