Another iPad, PlexAmp works fine Plex app goes straight to Uh oh error.
I’m going to assume no one has found a solution yet? Has Plex offered any sort of work around? My iPad’s primary use was to watch plex. Kinda disappointed.
I gave up on that older (but still supported device), I have a lifetime subscription to Infuse also so installed that instead.
Seems others have success by several uninstalls and reinstalls. Not really a solution.
No response or pointer from the Plex team at this point.
Unfortunately this issue seems to be model dependant. Which model iPad are you using?
Beta Updates:
Neither of these betas talk about iPad models or the immediate Uh oh error on launch.
This is of no help.
Exactly, did I say it would. This was FYI ![]()
I’ve seen this on five different iPads now, from A10X through M1, in various form factors, however all running supported iOS/iPadOS versions.
The fact that some folks have been able to delete the app, re-install & configure…then delete the app and try again unto 4-5 times for it to work, mean’s it’s likely not model specific, however might be OS specific?
So many threads both here and on Reddit, mean this is a widespread blocking issue that deserves some attention. I’m surprised about the lack of any help from Plex on this blocking topic that is impacting quite a few folks.
I am not saying there is No issue, what I can not understand my instillation worked first go. Except the learning curve of Favourites and long press and other UI oddities. I’m not giving the middle finger to all that are having issue, far from that position.
Is this an issue of different devices on different Apple accounts, corrupted downloads, OS Version, Networking, Hardware, iPad configuration or a combination ? I just don’t know. What is concerning it looks like Plex can not reproduce the issue as this has been around a while.
On my side of things, Iam using the Latest iPad Pro M4 Models 13" and 11", Mac Mini M4 Server with WiFi 6, all the most recent Beta Plex Releases. If this is the reason of a positive install, I have no idea. I can say each forum Member that is having an issue needs to list there setup specs just in case there something with consensus.
@Craig_Holliday can you jump in here please and offer some of your magical wisdom to these concerned Subscribers.
Cheers
My M4 iPad Pro 11" is also working just fine also, so it’s not an issue with all devices, and some folks have managed to push through (one I got a DM from had to re-install 6 times and it eventually worked).
I think we can all agree 3+ weeks without any attempt at help from the Plex team on a widespread issue leaves a bit to be desired.
I can’t speak on there behalf and I definitely don’t know there workings behind the scenes. I can say amongst the forums there are individuals with shadowy intentions and I’m not saying in this discussion any exist.
Now, what I can say is an issue brought to there attention, spends a time internally ( be it 4 weeks say or even longer). Then it is released to TestFlight Beta Testers. So 3 weeks seems plausible.
To me it seems the M series processer is less inclined
I’m not saying a fix or changes to code, just any kind of interaction, confirmation or attempt to help us debug.
(when the error hits you, you can’t use Plex at all, including not been able to download logs, hence we are totally dependant on the Plex team)
I think that @SE56 included the Beta Updates as a second seperate point in the post, leading to a bit of confusion.
Just out of interest what iPad model are you seeing this with, and what iPadOS version?
6th gen iPad running 17.7.8
Hey y’all,
Just confirming that yes I have reported this internally.
We haven’t been able to reproduce it but we are working on a way to get logs from the “Uh oh” error screen.
We will also look at some of our internal error reporting to narrow down to the provided device/os versions.
I’ll update when I see any progress on this bug.
TY for the continuous info
Thanks @Craig_Holliday, appreciate the insight & update.
Long time plex subscriber, add me now to the list of frustrating paid members. Both my kids have 2nd gen iPad Pros running 17.7.8 and one can use Plex and the other now has the dreaded “Something is wrong” screen. Have exhausted all options. Very tech savvy. Not happy.
Thanks Craig, having lived this life I appreciate the pain behind the scenes.
I have a bit more info that may or may not help
I had a software update around the time this problem started, but I also created a Home account around this time (total of two accounts on my server, mine and this Home user).
I can’t seem to get anything else out of my iPad about it, and the app halts at the error and refuses to do anything else.
Reach out if you need some specific scenarios tested,
Anthony
iPadOS 18 dropped support for iPad 7th Gen, iPad Pro 10.5" and iPad Pro 12.9" 2nd Gen, so if @RyanBoehm77’s kids devices are these (like one of mine is, a Pro 10.5") then upgrade isn’t an option.
I would strongly encourage folks not to go down the path of a factory reset just to fix a broken Plex app, for me the iPad in question was a freshly factory defaults reset device anyway.
Okay, assuming it is a Broken Plex app, if not then…
On the same iPad:
Infuse works fine.
Apple TV works fine.
Netflix works fine.
Binge works just fine.
Amazon Prime Video works just fine.
VLC with SMB file shares works fine.
JellyFin works fine.
Disney+ works fine.
Unwached works fine.
YouTube works fine.
Kayo Sports video works fine.
Foxtel Go works fine.
It’s just Plex that doesn’t work, and it fails with an internal error (not an O/S error) after initial load, offering no other steps to get logs or diagnostics.
Craig has kindly outlined that additional investigations will happen and some further error captures when this known situation occurs (I can also see reports on Android with the same error message). Let’s hope that helps us figure out what the root cause is.
