# Plex can't "see" the episodes

Hello Everyone,  
i installed the plex media server version 1.25.6.5577-7000 on my synology NAS (Version 7.0.1-42218) to organize my library.

My problem is, that the Plex server can’t see the episodes from different series (Log Horizon, Demon Slayer Season 2, Tsukimichi Moonlit fantasy). The folder-structure is:

Anime  
 → Series  
 → german  
 → Series 1  
 → season 1  
-\>episode 1 …  
 → japanese  
 → Log Horizon  
 → season 1  
-\>Log Horizon - S01E01 - The Apocalypse.mp4

I tried different agents (Plex TV-Series, The TVDB and the Movie DB) and scanners (Plex Series Scanner, Plex TV Series) but plex couldn’t see these videos… so i googled the series on the websites of these agents and could find them on these websites. Same Name (Series and Episode!) But Plex still can’t “see” these videos. It looks like, these aren’t existing in my filestation, but they exist…

- Plex has administrator rights on all folders (System and user) where the series are saved.

I don’t really have any idea now, where the error is… Could you help me please? i also tried different language titles, but it still won’t work ☹

Or is this maybe a bug, because the Plex Media Server is in the beta phase for synology Nas?

Which folder are you adding to the library? You cannot add `Anime` given the current folder structure.

Here’s a couple of ways you could structure things. There are assuredly others. The main thing to remember is that the show folder must be directly below the folder added to the library. No sub-folder groupings by language, genre, etc.

Separate libraries based on language:

```auto
Anime <-- Not added to any TV show library
...Anime German <-- folder added to "Anime-German" library
......Series_Name (year)
.........Season 01
............Series_Name (year) s01e01 Episode_name.ext <- ext = mkv/mp4/etc.

...Anime Japanese <-- folder added to "Anime-Japanese" library
......Series_Name (year)
.........Season 01
............Series_Name (year) s01e01 Episode_name.ext

```

You could also have a single Anime library by adding both `Anime German` and `Anime Japanese` folders to the same library. Plex may consider the shows duplicates and combine them. If so, you would have to manually split them apart, but it should be doable.

  

One library, shows separated by language:

```auto
Anime <-- folder added to "Anime" library
...Series_Name (year) [German]
......Season 01
.........Series_Name (year) s01e01 Episode_name.ext

...Series_Name (year) [Japanese]
......Season 01
.........Series_Name (year) s01e01 Episode_name.ext

```

Plex will most likely consider the shows duplicates and combine them.  
You can manually split them apart, then edit the show name in Plex to denote which is German and which is Japanese.

Your structure is doable, but you are most likely (as FordGuy says) pointing the TV Shows library at the root of the **Anime** or **Series** folder. This does not work, as you have some subfolders within, and within THOSE are the shows themselves. Plex expects when you target a folder in a library that every single subfolder WITHIN that folder is a single TV Show. It will NOT drill down into sub folders to locate multiple shows. This will cause issues. avoid this.

So do this:

Anime  
-Series  
–German (\<-- point your library at this folder)  
—Series 1  
—Series 2  
----Season 01  
----Season 02  
–Japanese (\<-- Also point your library at this, if you want all shows to be in a single list intermixed, or in a separate tv shows library if you want them separate)  
—Series 1  
—Series 3  
----Season 01  
----Season 02  
—etc

Refer to the **Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files** support article linked above. You can deviate from the “preferred” way in some aspects, but the golden rule really is **Do not point a library at a folder with shows in subfolders**.

and this is what i exactly did. Here is a picture of the structure. Maybe this is better to understand. I apollogize for my bad english! I’m not very good in language skills ^^’

I have 2 Shows: German and the other one is Japanese. German is pointing to Animes\Serien\Deutsch and japanese is pointing to Animes\Serien\Japanisch And inside these Folders, there are these series i have.

Sorry I only speak english. It sounds like you have set the libraries set correctly, but the folders aren’t labeled correctly. Most likely Plex didn’t find those shows you mentioned because it “mis-matched” them. One of the big parts Plex uses to identify that a folder is “Log Horizon” is by the release year. So you should really go through your folders and rename the shows to include the **(YEAR)** after the name, like so: **Log Horizon (2013).** Failure to include it may cause plex to mis-identify the show, or even think it might be an entirely different show altogether. Afterwards, do the [Plex dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/the-plex-dance/197064) on the specific files

From your screenshot of your folder structure, the only one I can see that you mentioned as having a problem is Demon Slayer. The others (Log Horizon, Tsukimichi Moonlit fantasy) must be Japanese shows further down in that list. So I can’t tell for sure if there is a massive mistake in naming them, but based on your lack of release years so far, that might be the reason they don’t show up.

But Demon Slayer is a curious one. It’s interesting to me that, of all shows you have, it’s one of the few that has no subfolders. If there are 2 seasons and you have both, you must have each season included in separate sub folders. If you have both seasons and they are in the root of the folder combined, that may be the reason season 2 is not showing up (check to see if there are duplicates of the season 1 episodes… episodes 1 through 7.)

I’d like to see how your files are named as well. The **Naming your media** support article linked by FordGuy up above (I can’t stress this enough) should be followed for the files as well. (Personally, I feel you can leave the show name out of the video file names. I never did that, and it never screwed up).

Final word of advice: Follow the show name and release year for shows as seen on [https://thetvdb.com/](https://thetvdb.com/). Plex seems to identify a show and list the episodes based on the information taken from that site.

An important point from the article linked by @FordGuy61 that I didn’t see mentioned here (so sorry if I overlooked it) is this:

I see you have the German word for season in your screenshot, which could very well be causing the issue.

Like @Divideby0 I only speak English, so I have never tried naming the season folders in a different language and seeing how Plex handles it.

I renamed the folder Log horizon in “Log Horizon (2013)” like you said before. The Season foldername is also “Season 1”. After that, i did the [Plex Dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/the-plex-dance/197064) (why is this called dance xD) and the issue is still there. I looked at [theTVDB.com](http://theTVDB.com) for the correct name and it is still correct. Here is the screenshot of the exactly structure.

I tried to use the english episodename and the german episode name. The complete List of the episodes aren’t there. It’s just 1 Episode and that is the end. And as you can see, i have way more episodes

What i don’t understand is, that the episode, that plex is seeing, is episode 14… And it is the only episode of the series, that Plex is “seeing”…

The german AND english Episodes name are existing on [theTVDB.com](http://theTVDB.com) website…

I also reinstalled the Plex media Server, to be sure, that the upgrade went wrong or something, but it didn’t :c

Did i overlooked something?

Try and rename the S01Fxx to S01Exx. The F in the season naming episodes is most likely causing problems.

I’d also recommend renaming the top level folder to match the show episode names. So `Danmachi` to `Log Horizon`. Even better would be to add the year in brackets like `Log Horizon (2013)` as the year is used as a hint in matching.

well, Thanks… I’m dumb… It works now 🤦‍♂️  
As a german sentence is saying:  
“Canno’t see the wood for the trees”  
This is the solution, but i don’t know, why plex is having this trouble on just these 3 Shows and not generally… Because i use the structure on all Series i have…

Pure luck 😁. Deviation from recommended naming conventions can work in some cases. Plex will try and match but it’s always best to name correctly as it could break at anytime in the future.

So, is the use of S01F01 a German thing, or did you just mis-read the “E for Episode” and think it was an “F”?

I don’t know if Plex has support for file/folder/season naming in non-english words (such as the word “staffel” instead of “season”). If so, it’d be good to know, so when I advise someone such as here whether the english words were absolutely necessary, or whether I need to learn alternate language words for “Season” and the like. 😃

Pretty sure only english naming is supported for the actual media on disk but I’m open to correction on that. Plex then handles the language in its UI settings.

As far as i could understand it:  
It is a german thing. Sometimes plex can handle it and sometimes not. I will rename all Episodes in [Name] - SxxExx [Title] to be sure, that plex will know these episodes. The “F” in the data was for “Folge”, because i’m a german man and i wanted to name the data in german (My motherlanguage). Now i’m a step ahead and know the problem. Many thanks again!
