Server Version#: 1.25.6
Player Version#: Roku current version

In the past couple of days, I’ve had the Plex server crash randomly while watching previously recorded DVR’d content from a tuner. I quickly restarted the server and pulled a log dump, but it is understandably driving my wife crazy. What logs are helpful to post or dig through to troubleshoot?

Thank you everyone, much appreciated!!!

The Plex Media [Server logs](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/) would be the starter for investigations

I have found an uploaded dump for a crash at 04:07 am UTC on 1st March. If you have the corresponding [server logs](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/) - then I can have a look

[Debug Logging](https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/#toc-1) should be enabled beforehand - it is by default on most platforms

See the linked [server logs](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/) support article

I believe [this](https://www.andyring.com/Plex_Media_Server_Logs_2022-03-01_21-42-53.zip) should be them.

That log covers period after the dump that I found - there have been more crashes - so see if you have more logs after crashes

I have dumps for these times

Feb 28, 2022 at 22:07:29
Mar 04, 2022 at 00:01:34

The logs you gave me were for a crash at Mar 01, 2022 21:40 and I do not have the dump for it

So if you have logs after these crashes i can have a look to see if they cover the crash time

Also you could see if there is any crash log for Plex within the MacOS directories for crash logs -

```auto
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
```

See if anything there at around this time Mar 01, 2022 21:40

Thank you for looking into this!

I do not see anything within the MacOS locations you referenced.

Try this [log file](http://www.andyring.com/Plex_Media_Server_Logs_2022-03-07_09-18-41.zip).

I did have another crash sometime in the last 10 hours or so (overnight), and just pulled another [log dump](https://www.andyring.com/Plex_Media_Server_Logs_2022-03-08_07-53-22.zip) if that helps.

No - sorry it only covers Mar 07, 2022 04:55:49 to 09:18:39

> [@andyring](#):

> I did have another crash sometime in the last 10 hours or so (overnight), and just pulled another

Sorry the logs missed it - they cover the period just after the crash
Mar 08, 2022 06:54:00 to 07:53:20

I have referred the crash to the development team anyway - even with mismatching logs and dump. Of course it would be clearer if we have logs and dumps corresponding to each other

You can try incrasing the number of log files from the default to say 10 and then restart Plex Media Server. See reference to “LogNumFiles” in this support article [Advanced, Hidden Server Settings | Plex Support](https://support.plex.tv/articles/201105343-advanced-hidden-server-settings/)

Thanks. I just set the log files to 10 as you suggested, and if/when it crashes again, I’ll update my post.

OK, just got home and saw it had crashed. I did already yesterday change the log to 10 as suggested. Here’s a [dump](https://www.andyring.com/Plex_Media_Server_Logs_2022-03-10_21-16-26.zip). Hopefully it has helpful information for you.

Thank you. I now have a matching set of crash dump report and logs - for the crash at Mar 10, 2022 21:01:41

The crashes are happening at the end of the Plex Commercial Skipper runs for recorded DVR programs - you could disable that preference until the problem is identified and fixed

Thank you for that information!

Currently, I have all my recordings set to “Detect commercials and mark for skip.”

Are you recommending setting that to “Disabled” for the time being?

Yes - whilst we have the crashes in running the Ad Detector

I’ve had the ad detector disabled for more than a week now, but still running into crashes. Here are logs from [yesterday](http://www.andyring.com/Plex_Media_Server_Logs_2022-03-20_16-51-12.zip) and [today](http://www.andyring.com/Plex_Media_Server_Logs_2022-03-21_22-11-22.zip).

The constant crashing needs to stop. Latest server update has been a problem.

It appears to have been enabled for these recordings which ran the Commercial Skipper

Let me have debug [server logs](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/) after the crashes and will have a look.
Make sure you have enabled [debug logging](https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/#toc-1) and that the server is restarted after that
See [Reporting issues with Plex Media Server | Plex Support](https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/)

You also need to disable or assign to DVR Settings for each previously scheduled recording since these were created when commercial detection was enabled.

OK, I went through each and every recording I have set up and made sure all are set to “Use DVR Setting.” And the DVR setting is “off” for commercial detection.

If I have further crashes, I will upload those logs.
